No wonder you wanted to speak at the funeral. You knew you couldn’t stay awake for it. Sheesh. C-Span parked its camera on you a couple of times, and I’m surprised we didn’t hear you snoring. What a fucking putz! Don’t you even have the modicum of discipline required to stay awake for a couple of hours? On national TV? At a state funeral? With a cathedral full of amabassadors, princes, prime ministers, justices, and presidents? Lord, your wife must think you’re a ball and chain.
I wasn’t watching.
Bill who?
Reason enough to snore, if’n ya asks me.
Bill Clinton. I’m sure this lengthy state funeral was an extremely exciting occasion.
Well, it could have been worse. He could have fallen asleep during an audience with the Pope.
What?
I’m a longtime Clinton supporter who didn’t see the service, but if he did, he deserves some criticism. Treat others the way you’d like to be treated and all that.
So the Clinton-pitters are the same people who want him to remain as a primary character in the world’s eye? I wasn’t even aware he’d attended - and yes, I did read a list of the ‘main’ attendees. If you hate him so much, then there is NO reason to keep talking about him - just let it go, m’kay?
Hee. Seriously, Lib, would Reagan’s siesta while in audience with the His Holiness have caused you to call him a “fucking putz”?
Please read the post above yours. Plenty of us hold respect for the office regardless of the individual and get frustrated with this sort of laziness. It has nothing to do with hating anyone … it will be just as annoying if Bush is farting loudly at Carter’s funeral.
So you elect a president for four years, and you expect them to then behave immaculately for a lifetime?
It was really awkward and his face looked so funny. We wondered if his jaw was going to drop open or if he was going to fall into the floor. I think I also saw Prince Chuck nodding off.
To be fair, however, I have been in situations where I absolutely could not stay awake and it had nothing to do with level of interest or respect. I think I remember the late President Reagan taking a nap at inappropriate times.
I would have thought that he and Prince Charles would have entertained themselves by scoping out all the women in the audience.
Yeah… 1981 to 1989, wasn’t it?
Reagan banned those pills, Lib.
I’m no fan of B.C. but just perhaps he spent a long night at work in his Harlem office, had a long metro north commute to Chapaqua, and then a horriable commute to Westchester Airport, possiable a long flight and then Washington traffic.
I can hold much against him, but have to give him a pass on this one.
For those who didn’t catch it…form your own opinions. (sorry about the sourcing…somehow I suspected drudge would have it )
I saw the funeral and I didn’t think it was particularly boring. Even if it was, you’d think that at this stage anyone who’d been in public office would have learned how to stay awake during boring state events.
However, I don’t remember Clinton’s face. Was he obviously sleeping? Maybe he prefers listening to speeches or music with his eyes closed. Odd as that sounds, my father does that. If he was sleeping, that is pretty tacky.
Bad choice of photo - the woman behind looks to be asleep, too.
Lets just say Clinton wasn’t the only one sleeping…
I am going to whatever that place where really really really bad people go whenver they… you know…
Falling asleep at an important national event where you are expected to act respectful and you know cameras will be on you is not the same as “behaving immaculately.”
If he wants to spend his post-presidential weekends cavorting with the doxies at the Mustang Ranch, its poor taste but ultimately not my business. If he shows up at John Kerry’s inaguration hung over and with a hooker on each arm, it’s rather a different thing.
