Damn, but it's good to be a Blue stater!

As per usual Worldy, when I cannot speak, you speak for me-and likewise*!

Hear, fucking hear!

Sam

And when New York and DC voted for Clinton, by logical extension, it must have pissed off the terrorists big time. The embassy bombings, Cole bombing, and the planning for 9/11 happened during his administration.

Does that mean I get to blame blue state America?

Or is Osama bin Laden pissed off at America regardless of who’s in the Oval Office?

As to the way New York and DC votes, they always vote for Democrats for the presidency. It really doesn’t matter how poor a candidate that Democrat is.

Dukakis won in these cities. So did Mondale, Carter, and McGovern. These men lost the White House is races not remotely close, thus proving that the New York City and Washington, DC voter is not representative of national opinion to any close degree.

That’s a whole lot of people, maybe even more than the 3000 (?) unarmed, unprotected civilians killed in New York. Right. Note that this was not the first time Bin Laden had tried to do this at the very same location, but he finally succeeded.

OK, the big election issues turned out to be “morality” and “values”. It’s “us” against various poorly thought out, helter skelter religious “ideas” or heresies being pushed by backwoods revival meetin’ type preachers and created by cherry picking only certain parts of a Book most of you never even read. What does that have to do with bombings and killings? And the word of Swifties, Coulter, Limbaugh, Hannity, O’Reilly, Rove, and Cheney’s “vote for us or die”. There is no wisdom to be gained from the red states, only reactionary religiosity and hypocrisy. In fact, as soon as Bush figured out how easily he could get the red states riled up about them faggots and libruls, he decided Bin Laden wasn’t even important anymore. He even said during the debates that Bin Laden and Al Queda were not important. You missed that? Never mind that the reason or alibi for the war kept changing and during the debate Bush could barely differentiate between Bin Laden and Hussein, you wise all knowing reds still didn’t smell the bullshit. So where is the wisdom? Now there is a ummmmmm 51 percent mandate(?). Yeah, wisdom. I call it gross ignorance and deliberate blindness and unbridled arrogance. Or how about intolerance, bigotry, and gross stupidity?
I’ll see your 20 Cole sailors and raise you 3000 New Yorkers.

I see that The Onion sees things my way:

Right. I did say you were more likely to be a target of terrorism in New York and Washington. My office filled with smoke that day from a burning Pentagon right across the highway, so I’m fully aware of this.

World Eater, however, said that these are the only places that need to worry about it. That’s just flat wrong, and I have provided considerable evidence to show that it is.

We may differ, Bush and Kerry voters, in the right approach. But all Americans need to be concerned about this issue.

If you live in a big city, or a port, or have to fly somewhere, it affects you.

If you are in the military, or know someone who is, it affects you.

If you are a firefighter or police officer, or know one, it affects you.

Since it affects so damn many people, it is of concern to us all.

Also strange is how the Republicans used New York City to host their national convention. They used a city that obviously didn’t like them as a prop to get rural americans to like them. Despicable.

This red/blue state bullshit is so unproductive and too generalisitic. All of these states are actually various shades of purple. Each state has their strengths and weaknessess; nothing more, nothing less. Both sides should just STFU and move on.

And as usual, thanks for the kind words Sam. We’re fine as long as the discussion isn’t medical malpractice lawsuits.* :stuck_out_tongue:

[sub]*of which you’ve made me take a second look at things[/sub]

Terrorism was an existing problem long before Bush came into office, there’s no debate about that. I simply feel that Bush’s policies towards terrorism agitate the problem instead of contain it.

Well according to him, he’s pissed because we have troops in Saudi Arabia. I donno if I believe him, but I don’t see Canada or Australia getting attacked.

I guess. We reserve our other offices for Republicans.

There was one other thing, long ago…I think I called you Worm Eater. I’ll have to look that up and see how much of an ass I was being…

Sam

For those who haven’t seen them already…

I notice that the highest concentration of red seems to be centered around Salt Lake City. What’s up with that?

Ahem…the Bali bombing, perhaps?

Most of the 202 people killed were young Australians on holiday.

You really haven’t studied this terrorism thing very closely, have you?

Oh, the stories I could tell you about Utahr. Here’s a start: Clinton finished third in Utah in 1992, behind Bush and Perot.

Oh, they likes them some Republicans, yessir.

(Now, I have to run off to the Z for their back to skull cell.)

The problem with the red state/blue state divide is that it colors a state as 100% red even if the margin of victory if 0.1%. That doesn’t really represent the political makeup of the state.

Here’s a more realistic portrait of purple america:
http://www.princeton.edu/~rvdb/JAVA/election2004/

Don’t some liberals on this board do the same thing? They’ll insult an entire state as being full of ignorant bigots.

It happens every time a state has gay marriage bans on the ballot.

I’m not so sure. The “why I voted for Bush” thread over in IMHO had a lot of people favoring “taking the fight to their doorstep” or some such. It has a bit of a “so long as it’s not here” flavor to it.

I knew you were going to mention this 10 seconds after I posted.

First off I hope you don’t think the island of Bali is part of Australia. Last I checked, it wasn’t. Looks like someone had a beef with indonesia, and wanted to fuck up their tourist trade. A pile of Aussies may have been in the wrong place at the wrong time, but they were hardly targeted. Call me when the someone flies a plan into the Sydney opera house.

The bigger point which you seem to be avoiding is that there is rhyme and reason behind these attacks. Countries are being targeted for specific reasons, and some countries have been left alone. I don’t think “they hate our freedom” really cuts it. I’m not saying they have good reason to blow us up, just that we should take a look in the mirror.

Why? Introspection generally means swallowing your pride at one point or another. Tough guys like us(the U.S.), have nothing, if not pride.

Sam

Quite the opposite. I was suggesting we look in the mirror to stare at our enormous balls, not to reflect on the cause and effect of our foreign policy.
