Damn Car!!!

Some of you may recall that I was in the pit not that long ago kvetching because my transmission had gone out.

Well, guess what? $6,000 in repairs later (not limited to the tranny)

My Goddamned Mutherfocking car broke down again!!!

Aargh!

whimper

Link? What was actually wrong? Is this a new car? Why would you spend 6k on a not new car? Splain, please.

b.

Grumble.

There is no link - the prior $6K was for a brand new transmission & replacement/repair of a blown head gasket (plus rental car while I was waiting for repairs). And I didn’t buy a new car because I was unemployed and couldn’t afford the payments on a car. In fact, I’m now employed and still can’t afford payments. Sigh.

Turns out that today’s problem was because the little hook-like bolt jobbies that are supposed to hold the battery in place weren’t there and so the battery had slipped out of position = no power to engine. And the repair place didn’t have the right size bolts, so I’m driving a car that could poop out on me at any time until I can get to a Pep Boys or someplace similar.

Oh well. At least the checkup didn’t cost me anything - my battery is still under warrantee.

SisCoyote, don’t take this the wrong way, but why the fuck did you spend $6K on a transmission? I bought my very reliable Jeep for 4K (though it does have mild coolant system problems - damn Chysler puts a water pump designed for their 4-cylinders into their six cylinders.) I bought the whole damn thing for 4K. Even a complete rebuild of your transmission shouldn’t cost that much, much less 6K. Transmissions ought to be cheaper than engines, too. I bought a rebuilt engine for a different car, and had it installed, for $3K back in 1998.

I’m sorry to tell you this, but it sounds like you were profoundly screwed. Who were these guys that convinced you to do this?

Ah, should have read farther (sorry for that, but I blame the Anheiser Busch Corporation). You blew a head gasket. That’s bad. Still, I think you would be better off if you could have bought a POS used car from one of those “bad credit -no problem!” guys. What do you drive anyway?

Sis C, you need to get somewhere where people won’t rip you off for auto repairs. You have been seriously ripped off; a brand new engine and transmission for your car should have cost less than 6k. You should have been able to find someone to do that work for a LOT less. I was asking for a link to the original pit rant, by the way, so I could learn more about your problem, but I suspect you were in fact, as Beeble says, profundly screwed, and not even kissed in the deal.

As for the battery, buy a bungee cord. The battery on my tractor has been held on by a bungee cord for almost forty years now.
