I went to bed early last night just so I could get up before dawn and go fishing. I left confident that I could catch at least ONE fish. I went to Lake Simmons, threw my lines in and…nothing. Yeah, a few nibbles, but they were the small fry fish that snatch your bait and never take the hook. I had one line rigged with catfish bait. Not even a nibble. But the line with nightcrawlers. Geez, these must have been ninja fish. Another guy and his son came out and tried, but they too had no luck.
So I decided to go on post (Fort Bragg. Lake Simmons is outside of the gate, though you still need a Ft. Bragg fishing permit to fish there) to Lake McKellar hoping to have beter luck there. About a half hour later the same guy and his son come out there. 40 minutes after that they pack up to leave.
“Any luck?” The guy asks me. Nada.
“We’re leaving. We just caught three.” he says.
WTF? So I’ve been fishing for hours and nothing, this guy and his kid spend a half hour there and walk away with three.
Do I suck that bad at fishing? I ran out of bait and I was (and still kinda am) tempted to run to the store and buy more and go back out. But its too late now, I think. The sun is directly over the lake(s), most of the fish won’t bite when its too hot. And fishing on the bottom for catfish hasn’t been working.
There has got to be a beter place to fish on or around Bragg or in fayetteville. I’m just frustrated. Now I’ll spend all week at work dreaming about the upcoming 4 day weekend and actually catching a fish.
