Even the way they talk is getting me going!
Of course, the fact that I like petite young women squatting and sliding has nothing to do with it.
Serious, nothing at all
I seem to remember being mesmerized by women’s curling four years ago for that reason. I haven’t seen the current crop yet.
You can read bios (each of which is helpfully illustrated with a photo or two) at the USA Curling site. Here is the page for Jessica Schultz. Clicking on any of the links above her picture will take you to info on her corresponding teammate, and the Bios Home option in the red column on the left-hand side of the page leads you to a more comprehensive list of curlers. (And for those who are so inclined, there are males featured as well.)
I went to a “learn curling” event at the ice rink in the local mall last Saturday. It was really fun. About 30 people showed up and we learned the basics. You wear a “slider” on one foot (generally the left if you are right handed) and push off with the other foot. It’s really hard to look graceful. After a few tries I managed to get a couple of “rocks” in “the house”. We didn’t do much sweeping, and getting the rocks to curve was difficult. Apparently a good curler can have the rock move up to two feet sideways.
I’m thinking of joining the league.
Curling is absolutely, completely fun. Definitely give it a whirl.
Way ahead of you.
Poor Cassie. Her last shot, sailing right through the house, looked like one of my shots.
Wow, she started curling when she was six.
I love curling, despite rarely ever getting to see it. It’s the one sport that I can easily understand the strategy involved. It’s also the sport I’d want to do if I were younger and didn’t have bad knees that don’t do well on slippery surfaces.
Hope Canada gets the gold!
How can you resist Minnesota blondes screaming “hurry hard!”
To NBC’s credit, they’re showing complete ten-end games, although you miss a few rocks during commercial breaks. My DVR is going to be filled with curling before the end of the Olympics. I hope my curling club will also be filled with new prospective members, too.
Unfortunately, now I find myself repeatedly saying “Dody Norby!” in a Norwegian accent. However, I think I’ve learned the Norwegian word for “sweep” - it’s “AAAAAARRRRGGGGHHH!”
Have you seen the US lead?
Seriously, it’s proof that you don’t have to be “athletic” in the classic sense to be a good curler.
She’s still cute. And the others are sized like gymnasts. A couple of the europeans are average to large sized, too, but overall, these women are tiny.
And really purdy…
::drool::
Wow, that’s a young team. They could easily have another 3 Olympic appearances after this one. Not bad at all.
My friend and I are going to a “learn curling” doohickey on Sunday. I’m really looking forward to it.
I demand an equal time link to the Japanese women’s curling bios.
Feel free to add Swedes, Canadians and anyone else whilst you’re at it.
Just think if that was a big iron they were pushing around. Now that’d be sexy.
Betty and Wilma are gonna whack you up side the head one of these days with that attitude.
Or if they used vacuum cleaners instead of brooms.
ON IT! HURRY HARD! HURRY HARD!
Even better would be if they were barefoot and pregnant, but then they’d get frostbitten feet, and the baby would probably make it harder for them to squat.
Trust me when I tell you that you’re better off not seeing the Canucks or the Brits.
