Damn Yankees kill another Southern institution: White Lily flour

Continuing the hijack:

Honey, I don’t know that anyone is more hardcore than UGA fans - we live all the way down in South Georgia - less than an hour from the border and I think some of our friends are driving all the way up to Athens for Uga’s funeral.

And we don’t even want to talk about Georgia/Florida.

For my part, I will miss White Lilly Flour as well. I guess I can use Martha White instead but change is never easy for cooks who are using a traditional family recipe. My Nanny would have been upset.

I’m picturing Helena Bonham Carter running through the Ministry of Magic chanting “I killed Sirius Black…”.

I went to the Barnes & Noble in Athens at Christmas one year and was astonished to see a line literally wrapped around the side wall, out the door, and about 20 yards down the sidewalk. I was wondering who in the hell was signing- I hadn’t seen that many people in line when I went to a David Sedaris signing there.

It was- I kid you not- Uga. He had… ahem… written a book and was “signing” it (they’d dip his paw on an ink pad). I’m not sure if Sonny Seiler was with him or not. (I think he signed them for free with purchase but you had to pay something like $20 extra [it went to some UGA charity] for Uga’s signature- and most people were paying it anyway.)

Of course Uga always makes me think of Lewis Grizzard’s “That dog’d bite youuuuuuuu!” joke.
