I think that after reading your argument I am gonna go out tomarrow and buy a new copy of Skynard’s album. I think I can honestly say that you have at least made the issue of the songs racist intent questionable. You have given me a reason to get off my high horse and listen to a song I always secretly loved. Of everything I have experienced at SDMB I appreciate your comments the most. Like I said, I still have my doubts, so it’s a relief just to know that somebody at least partially swallows my argument. The way you describe it fits me to a T- it’s like I need validation to listen to the song in peace. Thanks for the kind words, and make sure you get an album that has “The Ballad of Curtis Lowe” on it- that’s the one about the bluesman, and at least to me, it proves that this guy’s heart is in the right place.

Wow. That’s a really nice gesture on your part. Actually, I’m planning on staying. I paid via PayPal and apparently it takes a few days for the funds to clear my account and get to the Reader’s, so I’m a guest until such time as that goes through (and I can’t search, dammit!)
