Damn you Microsoft for what you have done to Hotmail! Damn you to hell!

almost 10 years ago, I opened a free email account at hotmail.com. And for a time, it was good.

A few years later, Microsoft decided to buy it. And for a time, it was good.

Then Microsoft decided to make some changes, and for a time…no! screw this! The bastards fucked everything up!

I used to have 5Mb of storage, they reduced it to 2.
TWO fucking megabytes!!! what the fuck is up with that? Back then people had around 400 Mb of hard drive, noawadays, you can get 50 times that for the same price. My goddamn inbox should have 1 fucking Gb of storage according to that logic. But i’d be happy with 20 mb, hell, i’d even be happy with the 5Mb i started with. But NOOOOOOOOOO!!! They had to reduce it to TWO!!!

But that’s not all, no sir! If that wasn’t bad enough, Hotmail became fucking Spamland! I used to receive no spam at all, then then maybe 3 or 4 a week after a few years, now I get over 50 fucking spam mails a day!!!

What is that you’re saying? Don’t blame Microsoft, blame the spammers you say? Oh, I blame them alright, but Microsoft should do it’s fucking part!!! They should provide with effective spam filters. Their spam filters have the same effectiveness that a lot of vacum with holes in it has in stopping bullets.

But that’s ok, because a few months ago, hotmail allowed us to set our own filters, allowing us to divert emails with certain keywords to certain folders (trash for example). Oh! was I wrong? Is Microsoft giving us a fair opportunity to fight against what THEY should be protecting us from. Well, gee, that’s awful nice of them. Let me get to work immediately. (a few minutes later) what the hell? I have a limited number of keywords I can use? Only 25? but that’s not enough!! It helps divert maybe 70 or 80% of my spam to the junk mail folder (whoopsie doo, in 15 minutes, I stopped 4 times as much junk as Microsoft’s automatic filters. I must be a genius, or they must be fucktards)

But it’s still nowhere near enough, I still get a dozen spam emails to my inbox every single day. Well, at least now it’s somewhat manageable I thought. WRONG! Some time later, Microsoft reduced the number of words I can filter to TEN!!! ain’t that funny? they reduced it by 60 percent, the exact percentage they reduced my storage with. I’m mad. MAD. MAD!!!

what are you saying? chill? it’s not that big a deal? we alll have to deal with spam?

hahaha! I laugh at thee! Do you know why? Because for the past months, the average size of a single spam mail has increased enormously. yes sir, I now receive SEVERAL spam mails that go from 40 to 300 KB A DAY!!! do you know what that means? That means that I have to clean my inbox EVERY SINGLE DAY because else it fills up completely and I STOP RECEIVING any mail at all. Which I guess is a blessing in disguise because if I have the NERVE to go on vacations or whatever and don’t open my inbox at least once every 15 days, it becomes INACTIVE!!! and the only fucking way you can reactivate it is to upgrade it to their fucking premium accounts for which you have to fucking PAY . As if all the goddamn advertising they fucking force down my throat wasn’t fucking good enough.

Oh, lookie! when you upgrade to premium, you get your 5 Mb storage back, you get a whooping 36 filters(still a fucking misery) instead of 10, you don’t have to check your inbox every 15 days. Oh, Microsoft is sooooo generous.

Bottom line:

They take a great webmail, they fuck it up completely and they blackmail you into paying them if you want to get it back to the way it was. Someone has been reading the godfather.

FUCK YOU, YOU FUCKING MOTHERFUCKERS!!! FUCK YOUUUUUU!!!

Well, I’ll be the first to say it:
IT’S FREE! YOU CAN’T COMPLAIN ABOUT SOMETHING THAT’S FREE!

I hate spam and restricted bytes as much as anyone, but at least I know I’m not entitled to a spam-free inbox when I HAVEN’T PAID FOR IT IN THE FIRST PLACE!

Face it. You’re a moocher, just like the million other people who use non-premium hotmail accounts. You aren’t entitled to the damn inbox in the first place, so you should be THANKING Microsoft that they have maintained the free service. They didn’t have to, you know.

It’s outrageous. If I were you I’d ask for my money back.

it’s free? no shit!!! I hadn’t noticed. Microsoft isn’t actually stepping on my constitutional rights?? gee, how could I be so blind. Now i’m happy with hotmail again!

No, seriously, get lost. I want to rant, i WILL rant. if I decide to rant about the government not giving me a free lexus, I will. Now shut up. I’m not a fucking borg or a vulcan. I’m venting here, give me space.

It’s a free lunch, Gozu, even if it is the equivalent of a ramen lunch. Suck it up, chum.

Maybe I’m being wooshed here, but your constitutional right? To what, e-mail? Remember kids, Microsoft may censor their webmail all they like, the constitution has nothing to do with it.

Now I’m not a big 1000-post poster, but I’ve been around long enough to know you can’t rant about silly things without getting called on it.

If you’re so unhappy with the size of your Hotmail inbox, buy a real e-mail account.

Don’t like Microsoft’s spam filter? Use Outlook for your Hotmail and install a 3rd-party spam filter.

Yes, I would say so.

read my second post

Dude…that was sarcasm…and not the subtle kind, I assure you.

The sole and only purpose of this post is to vent. I’m going to migrate from hotmail but it has nothing to do with the bbq pit or this post.

You have the right to rant.

We have the right to rant about your rant.

See how that works, you entitlement freak?

I did, and I’m not convinced. It’s not like you’re getting turds thrown at you for free, or anything. Hotmail is serviceable.

and I have the right to rant about you ranting about my rant. checkmate!

Sure you do, because my rant is being forced upon you, in a sense. Hotmail isn’t. It’s not like they’re throwing turds at you for free.

mail.yahoo.com

6MB inbox on the free account, and the spam filters kick ass. Literally less than one spam a week gets through to my inbox while the junkmail folder fills up with hundreds.

Oh, and the spams that do get through? You can report them to Yahoo and rest assured you won’t see anything like it again.

(Note: I don’t work for or have any financial interest in Yahoo. I’ve just been using their email for a long time with no problems and wondering why everyone else didn’t dump Hotmail five years ago.)

no, it’s not forced on me. next thing i know you’re going to tell me that the sky is blue and that the water is wet. I know all that. And yet I still think the people running hotmail are a bunch of greedy twisted motherfuckers whose business plan uses the disgusting “hook’em then rape’em” technique. It’s legal, it’s their right and priviledge same as it is mine to think whatever I want of them.

Giving 5 megabytes of storage to a thousand customers is a lot easier than giving 2 megabytes of storage to a million customers.

What do you propose for an “effective spam filter”? Telepathy? Sure, they can incorporate a similar filter as the one Mozilla has, but that stores statistical information locally… and we’ve already established the difficulties of providing storage space to a million customers.

Set the filter to automatically delete spam. Problem solved.

Someone has a persecution complex.

The difference being that your rant is idiotic, while the rants about your rant simply point out its idiocy.

I think that says it all, really.

I went from hotmail to yahoo! I like it much better. I got fed up with hotmail after I started getting over 100 spam emails a day, and I could only block 20 some email addresses.

Well, I won’t reply to the negative posters, but I agree with the OP. I only have a Hotmail account because of the Passport thing (required to use MSN, etc.). I NEVER give out this address, and, yet, I get hundreds of e-mails per week. I have the most stringent SPAM blocker selected in options. I suppose that this means either that thousands of SPAM messages are rejected, or, that none are. Since it isn’t important to me, I just go to the site occasionally and mass delete them and there doesn’t seem to be anyway to complain.

Yahoo, on the other hand, has a great SPAM blocker. I get, maybe, 2 per week.

FTR, I only use these addresses for anomyous e-mails.
