Went to the doc today after a few days of having a cold for a few days. Bad sore throat, blocked sinus, muscle ache etc.
During the checkup the doc looks down my throat and happens to mention that “your right tonsil is inflammed.”
Great, especially after having the bastard things out 10 years ago! It’s rare but apparently they can grow back.
Almost every year prior to having them yanked out (at 30) I would have four or five bouts of bad tonsilitis a year, after 10 years of non-throat searing bliss it looks like things are going to start again.
shit - I hope somebody comes along and tells us that it IS rare after all. I had strep throat for a couple of YEARS before I had a job with insurance and could get my tonsils out at the age of 40. some resistant strain I got working in an elementary school, kept coming back no matter what.
them bastards growing in again would be one of my nightmares.
It bodes well for if you accidentally amputate some other body part…
I had my tonsils out at four for continuous strep throat infections. I’ve had strep occasionally since but none recently. Any doctor I saw always remarked on how well my tonsils were “cleaned out”, meaning there’s a lot of empty space back there, and it hasn’t grown back.
Sincerely, I hope you feel better soon. That sounds like teh sucks, and I agonize with you as my laryngitis is in its third week.
I’m occasionally giving my appendectomy scar a worried look now.
Just sucks. I thought I was past all this crap, the damn things were the cause of about 85% of my childhood illness. According to my parents, I was due to get them out when I was about 7 but when we went to see the doc for the last consult we found that the day before he had a kid die after not being able to control bleeding after the operation. The doc stopped doing tonsilectomies and my parents decided to hold off on getting it done later.
At least yours just give you infections, mine gave my squamous cell carcinoma. Thought all I’d have to do would be have them out. Nope they don’t cut SSC in the throat, could shed cell to the lungs and spread the cancer. Eight weeks of concurent radiation and chemo. I don’t have cancer anymore but still have my tonsils.
