First he wakes me up at 3 in the morning scratching at my face for a can of food. Then he goes outside at 5:30 AM and stays out until late evening–he never stays out that late. I kept looking out at the road expecting to see a feline carcass splattered in the middle of it. Then saunters into the house expecting love and feeding. Damn cat, damn you to helllllll!
You have no idea what it’s like to have a body pillow sitting on your bed knowing that you’ll never be able to use it because if you do, your cat will repeatedly jump up on the bed and pester you until you finally push it to the edge of the bed by the wall so he can lie on it and not share it with you, thus giving you the choice between using your body pillow or getting a night’s sleep.
First, don’t feed your cat at 3:30 AM and he’ll get the hint. If you give in and feed him, you’re reinforcing the notion that 3:30 is breakfast time.
Second, you’re the one who let him out. Cats don’t wear watches. They stay out as long as they want. And, much like sixteen year olds, they don’t pay much mind to the “I thought you were dead in a ditch” speech. If you’re worried about your cat’s health while he’s out, then don’t let him out.
Finally, I never get people who complain about their cats waking them up. I have two of the wee beasts, and I’m either a heavier sleeper than I realized, or I have the world’s most courteous cats, because their comings and goings never bother me at night. If I go to sleep with one next to my face, and wake up with him behind my knees, his repositioning himself, including running, jumping, or climbing over me, never disturbed me. And I know the cats romp and squabble during the night, but again I sleep through it. Hm. Maybe you need a white noise machine to drown out your cat’s meowings?
I’m a pretty sound sleeper, and I have a sound machine, and I now (since it’s starting to get warmer at night now) have a fan on overnight as well. My Tawney’s meowings will still wake me up. From the other room. She’s fucking LOUD, man! I think she’s lonely - she only started this in late December when I had to put her brother to sleep.
Aw, I’m sorry. I guess I didn’t consider the fact, though, that I do have a lot of machines and crap running in my room. I don’t need a white noise machine. Plus, rereading the OP, the cat was actually swatting his face? That is pretty rude. I just have sweet kitties, I guess.
Or maybe they hate me, and therefore don’t want me awake and paying attention to them. Hmm. Either way, I get to sleep.
