Damnit, THAT's how I lose my 4.0 GPA?!

When I went back to college I lost my 4.0 to Judo. Didn’t matter in the long run - I would have eventually lost it in one of the higher math courses later.

When I was in high school, we had quarterly running tests as part of our PE grade. You had to run 1 3/4 mile in 12 minutes to earn an “A.” My friend and I cheated by adding an extra lap to each other’s scoresheet so that we wouldn’t fail the damn thing, and I didn’t even feel guilty about it. At the time, I was in incredible shape - I routinely did Jane Fonda’s aerobic videos TWICE through, and was moved to varsity volleyball the end of my freshman year. But none of that counted towards my proving my level of fitness. Because I couldn’t run a 7 minute mile, I ended up with a “B” in PE.

Another quarter, we had gymnastics as part of our curriculum. Nothing like taking unskilled teenagers and trying to get them to do vaults, balance beam, and uneven parallel bars. It was a nightmare. I remember running towards the vault and getting ready to jump onto the springboard and thinking, “This isn’t going to end well.” And it didn’t. I only passed that section because I was dating the gym teacher.

We had to take PE at my university, too. I also took bowling, and even though I royally sucked at bowling (seriously, I never broke 100) I got an A because I only missed one session. We had to take two 0.5 credit activity classes and a “Health and Fitness” 1 credit class to graduate. My other half credit class was, get this, Walking. It was an online course.
