And we can thank the libs for that. Remember LBJ and Medicare: “It’ll never cost more than 9 billion dollars a year”?
If the government hadn’t stuck its dick into healthcare back in the 60s, we wouldn’t be having this discussion today.

Once, in the Marianas Trench, in 1960 ?
Damn hippies!!!
Damn those meddling government bureaucrats, keeping old folks from dying like that. If we just let people croak when they get old and poor and start needing expensive treatments that they can’t afford, like God and Nature intended, we’d have saved a bunch of money by now, and we wouldn’t have so many old folks cluttering up the place.
Sadly, I don’t think some people see anything wrong with that scenario.
I don’t.
So if could be so kind as to provide us with a cite that LBJ promised that Medicare would never cost more than 9 billion dollars a year for the rest of human existence, I’d love to see it.
Thanks in advance.
Your pal,
CMC fnord!
Oh, he said it. I’m a liberal, and I’ll admit he said it. (Well, not that it would NEVER cost more than $9 billion/year. That’s not a reasonable position.)
The point is, if Medicare is so bad, why don’t those right-wing politicians introduce a bill to get rid of it? Oh, that’s right. Because everybody likes it. The great fear of the Right is that people will like UHC.
And it’s all your fault, too!
Welcome back, Rand Rover. Every healthy tree needs a sap.
Oh God, I should just pack my shit and leave now.
On a more cheerful note, has anyone notice the sort of pathetic nature of recent taunts? I mean, we have the current OP of “Barack HUSSEIN Obama’s a luser hahahahahaha!”
and another thread calling out Ariana Huffington in such a lame way, the OP’s heart is clearly not in it, and finally a thread where the thread hijacker does not even know they’re being made fun of. They’re not bringing the “A” game here at the moment.
I want the government to take all of Rand Rover’s money away and give it to undeserving poor people.
Undeserving Liberal African-American Muslim poor people.
I can’t believe you’re still mad about never getting a blowjob in high school.
I’m still trying to find an actual cite for it, but the actual claim is that the federal report that came up with medicare cost projections in 1965 claimed that Medicare costs would reach 9 billion dollars in 1990.
There is ZERO reason to ever read your posts, or to believe you will ever engage in an honest discussion on this subject, and likely, others. Anyone who does so will be wasting their time. Also, I can’t see why your post is not a troll. You’re not pitting, you’re celebrating, and the only reason for this post to exist is to “get a rise out of people”, and that is against the Pit rules.
You make conservatives look bad. Because I know it will give you heartburn, I want to remind you of all the uninsured - the gangbangers, the illegal immigrants, all the dirty poor that are not as good as you - who are getting hospital care at your expense NOW. Very cunning of you to celebrate the defeat of a way to do it better and cheaper, though. Way to go, Einstein.
You are just the second poster to make my ignore list, and I’m sure others will come to that as well, thanks to this thread. Life is too short to read the bigoted hate speech of the willfully ignorant. Here’s a little quote for you as I go off to forget that you post here:
So he can go into the swimming pool up to his waist.
What does that number look like after adjusting for inflation?
Not quite. The problem is that people, by force of law, are already too heavily invested in it. Additionally, since they have been by force of law heavily invested in it, and had no choice but to participate in it, they have made no alternative plans for health care during their retirement years. So yeah, they don’t want to lose it. That doesn’t mean it was a good idea, or that it has been well implemented. The return on investment for the majority is dismal.
I would suggest the great fear of the Right is that it would be run like other government programs – i.e., underfunded, bureaucratic and capricous. And eventually with no other option.
And this is what the Right does best, because it can’t actually do anything constructive-it spreads irrational Fear. And when it can’t point out anything to fear in a proposal, it will make up fears about some vague horror that will happen in the future.
You know? What I think the democrats should do is bring their bill up for a vote, let the republicans fillibuster, and wait them out.
If the democrats ever have a 60% majority of sitting senators, force the fillibuster to stop, if they never get that percentage… just let it go on and on and on…
