Dancing on the grave of health care "reform"

This thread has been about SA for so long that RR’s probably been able to flee into the next county by now.

Probably a prudent move on his part…

Sure! Because we all know that teen marriages are some of the most stable and long lasting of any union–much more so that there un-natural same sex marriage stuff. It’s GOOD to be 17, married and pregnant! I sure wish I could have been…

Even though I am already aware that most of you are masochists and couldn’t ignore SA and his ilk if your life depended on it, I’d like to direct your attention to my signature in case some of you aren’t quite as self-hating as you seem.

Doesn’t actually kill them, right?

Do you want it to?

Oy! Why does a Doper always answer a question with a question?

So, why shouldn’t a Doper answer a qeustion with a question?

You talkin’ to me?

You got a problem with that?

What if I do?

I forget–what play is this from?

How the hell should I know?

Uh oh, guys – death threads…you’re in for it now!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Dude. I can tell you did not listen to ‘War Pigs’ as I recommended. In a nutshell there was this thing called the ‘Vietnam War’, which served as fuel for the counterculture fire. ‘War Pigs’ represents a radical viewpoint for sure, but the remarkable thing is that it’s ideas struck a nerve with a sizeable portion of the population- including lots of the kinds of people you, Starving Artist, would approve of. If they didn’t think their government was exactly Satanic they certainly didn’t approve, not one bit, and it flipped their shit.

But yes, in the early 50’s conformity wasn’t so difficult. It was actually a swell idea. Vietnam changed that for a lot of people, and things never really swung all the way back.

What’dya think?

In the 1950s, women’s opinions didn’t matter much. Let’s see, when you’re asking how grand things were back then, you are talking about for white males only. That’s considerably less than half of the population of the country, SA.

I think I like it better now… when I can be real too.

Interesting points, here and there. I do recall that I grew up thinking that the Korean War was widely popular in America at the time, with public support approaching the same level of intensity as WWII. I can still remember how surprised I was to learn that was a crock.

There was always at least one counterculture going on in America. There were the orthodox Communists of the thirties, black culture, of course, and several vairetys of poor white culture. What is sold as country music these days isn’t much about white boys going to prison. Used to be.

But hey! I’m also 61, and so I was there in what he calls the good old days at the same time he was, and I say it wasn’t like that at all.

So whom should I believe, him or my lying eyes?

Him, at least, you can hide.

That was an especially good one.

Thanks for the Eagles earworm, ya big jerk. I’ll be by later to kick you in the scrotum.

Joy.
