Dancing with canoes

Hi all.

I do a fair bit of canoe/kayak paddling. I just kinda flail around…but I get where I am going and have fun. Other paddlers much better than me can make their boats appear to move without any effort and do all sorts of interesting manuevers.

Now, this isnt the best freestyle canoeing video I’ve seen, but I think folks who think of flipping over and crashing into things when they think of paddling a canoe might be impressed.

One of my paddling buddies is getting into this. I keep telling him he should come up with a routine based around Abba’s “Dancing Queen” song.

This video should allow you find other video’s of this ilk if it interests you.

Oh yeah, link safe for work.

I’m too busy working on my interpretive couch sitting to get involved.

He has excellent control. IMHO, he swapped sides with the paddle more than strictly necessary, but I think it was just because he was (forgive me) showboating.

Mind you, I’ve never demonstrated that kind of control over a canoe, but that’s not the kind of paddling I was practiced in. I was always in a much larger, two-man canoe, on moving water. The maneuvers in the video would get you dunked in a moderately fast river, let alone white water, because that’s not what they’re for.
