"Dancing with the Stars," Season Two

Awwwwwwwwwww, that was sweet. I’m sad.

Pls. take Barry Manilow out and shoot him, though.

Gott in Himmel, Manilow was more awful than I could have imagined, and I have a pretty lively imagination.

Now that they’re down to about five couples or so, is ABC gonna continue running hour-long results shows? I only ended up in front of this one bacause my local theatre cancelled their 7:15 showing of Good Night and Good Luck (burned up the print or something), but if they’re gonna drag it out like they did this week, I’ll find something else to do, like pick my toenails.

I know! It was hard listening to him struggle to hit some notes. How is he still in show business? Doesn’t he have some huge show in Vegas?

I have to agree with what most of y’all said about Jerry: He seems like a great guy without an ounce of rhythm. But he sure does try hard, doesn’t he?

And wow, Tia was so gracious about getting canned. What a class act.

Yet another reason to love Tivo.

Amen.

Me: “Manilow’s on again.”
Wife: “Any dancing?”
Me: “Doesn’t look like it.”
Wife: “Do it.”
Me: (fast forward) (fast forward) (fast forward) (fast forward)

Chuckling.

Manilow, my lord. Some of last week’s Idol contestants sounded better than that.

My wife’s a big Manilow fan, but after hearing him butcher “Copa” – when they said he was about to attempt “Unchained Melody”, she said “fast forward, please”.

About the music…would it kill them to actually play a samba when they’re dancing a samba? Instead of recycling (and slowing down) disco tunes?

And now, a poll (and an argument settler): how many of you DwtS fans had heard of Jerry Rice before this show?

Oh, my, I certainly have! He’s a sure bet for the NFL Hall of Fame. A really, really great wide receiver!

I had not heard of Stacey Kiebler or Kenny Mayne or Drew Lachey, however.

Heard of before the show: Tia Carrere, Giselle Fernandez, George Hamilton, Kenny Mayne, Tatum O’Neal (oscar winner, doncha know  ), Jerry Rice

Never heard of before the show: Stacy Kiebler, Drew Lachey, Master P (and I hope I never hear of him again), Lisa Rinna.

Oh, yeah, I forgot. I never heard of Master P either. . . but then, I’m not really into Gangsta Rap. (And how quickly we forget, once they’re gone.)

Vaguely knew the name, and that he had something to do with sports (I might even have correctly guessed football), but no more than that.

Others:
Stacy, Drew, Giselle, Kenny, P, George, Lisa - no clue
Tatum, Tia - knew they were actresses, no more

Louis - Blackpool Latin finalist, bit of a revolving door with partners subsequently, remember watching him as an amateur many years ago, pretty sure I’ve seen his shows since then
Max - Latin competitor, associated with training kids
Andrea - watched her compete as an amateur, didn’t know she had turned pro
Nick - have adored his dancing for years; several friends have costumes made by him
Jonathan, Anna - knew names, not much more
Cheryl, Tony - didn’t know beforehand
Edyta, Ashly - only knew from DWTS season 1

Can you tell I don’t watch this for the “stars”?

As far as I knew, the pro dancers sprang out of the ground just before filming started. You’re amazing!

I had, but only from cluing crosswords – “Football great Jerry” for “Rice.” What team he’d played for or what he’d done to achieve greatness – nope, not a clue.

I had. I’d also heard of Joe Montana, who was his cohort in crime.

Okay, I can’t figure it out - can someone tell me who got voted off last night?

Tia Carrere (sp?) and her partner were voted off.

And I knew who Jerry Rice was. Recognizable to any football fan, probably.

I’d heard of: Tia Carrere, George Hamilton, and Tatum O’Neal. I had no clue who Jerry Rice was. Is.

StG

Reminder that the second half of the PBS special is tonight.

I’m hoping there’s a lot of waltzing, now that I know what the differences are amongst the various types.

My wife couldn’t grasp that there might be some people (even including non-football fans) who hadn’t heard of Jerry Rice. But we live in the Bay Area, and he’s undoubtedly more of a household name here.

FTR, I’d heard of JR, Kenny Mayne, Tia Carrere, Tatum O’Neal and George Hamilton. Never heard of the others.

Well, our Tony Dovolani and partner ended up as the SECOND BEST ballroom dancing couple in AMERICA’S BALLROOM CHALLENGE last night! I thought they were terrific!

Now, let’s see if he can get the top spot with Stacey the Kiebler Elf on DWtS!
