Daniel Pinkwater lets you download his audiobooks for free

Or, I get to take a nostalgia trip which makes people wonder how old I am.

Might as well lead with strength: Daniel Pinkwater read his books to make audiobooks, which you can download for free from his website. He has a wonderful radio voice, a bit like what I’d expect him to sound like, based on when I read his books in grade school.

He already has Lizard Music up, which does me fine, because that’s the book of his I remember especially well. It’s weird: I read it once, when I was young, and then when I finally got online I’ll be damned if I could find much about it. It’s a weird kids’ book that never won any big awards, so why should anyone care? It’s almost enough to make you wonder about your memory. Well, now I’ve downloaded it in audiobook form, read by the author himself.

That site is a sub-page of his blog.

cool! I lost my copies of the snarkout kids books ages ago… I did wonder why he never made a 3rd one …

I LOVE Pinkwater! I have his novel for adults, The Afterlife Diet. My Windows sounds are a set he recorded and released for free. The critical error sound is yelling in Yiddish. Thanks for letting me know about this.

I remember they did Lizard Music on Cover to Cover (or Storybound… one of those shows with John Robbins drawing illustrations).

My brother once had a pet rat named Pinky for Daniel Pinkwater. (This was before Pinky and the Brain.)
