Swim, swim, swim, they never even slow down! The fish lady recommended Danio as my first fish because they keep swimming all the time, she said it’ll make my aquarium look more lively. No kidding!
I try to catch it swimming, I sneak up so silently in the middle of the night, but no, it just keeps swimming all the time like the hyperactive ADD case it is.
Just began cycling a new tank a few weeks ago. For the first couple weeks Danio 1 stayed all by his lonesome. The other day I added Danio 2. They’re schoolers, so I saw them constantly zipping around together in tandem. But most of the time it looked like D1 was chasing D2.
Then half of the time D2 was just hanging around hiding behind a rock in a corner of the tank, a regular wallflower. How un-Danio-like.
D1 had already gotten to know me as the Food Guy, so every time I stand by the tank, he comes over to greet me. I guess D2 is still getting used to the new place.
It bothers me. D1 is definitely intimidating D2. Everytime D2 swims out from behind the rock in the corner, D1 chases him back there. There hasn’t been any violence but a lot of inequality. I wonder when I add more fish next week how the aquarium politics will sort out.
Well, danio (what type you got?) are schooling fish, y’know, and happiest in groups of 4 or more, so they can all hang and chill. I bet once you add a few more they will sort everything out.
I have 4 zebra danios in my 29g tank - they are pretty neat little guys. They hang out in the top 1/3 of the tank for the most part and zoom, zoom all day. It’s fun to watch them make their tight little quarter turns! And no one seems to get picked on, at any rate, with 4 of them.
