Danish PM Calls Snap Elections.

Denmark’s Prime Minister, Elle Thorning-Schmidt has called for snap general elections scheduled for June 18. Thorning-Schmidt who has been Denmark’s prime minister since 2011, will see her center left party the Social Democrats, go head to head with the opposition center right Liberal party of Lars Lokke Rasmussen.

Upon her election four years ago, Elle Thorning-Schmidt became the first woman prime minister in Danish history, and she brought ten years of conservative rule to an end.

Most opinion polls showed Rasmussen’s opposition party in the lead, however the Social Democrats have bridged that gap.

Either way it will be a tough fight for both sides, and opinion polls are by no means perfect.

I hope Prime Minister Elle Thorning-Schmidt wins the election, she has pledged to raise welfare spending while Mr. Rasmussen wants to put limits on Public sector growth and focus on the private sector instead.

Bad idea if the conservatives return to power. They would also need to support of the far right, anti-immigration party Danish People’s Party to pass laws. Rasmussen was prime minister prior to being thrown out of office in 2011 by Schmidt.

If I were a voter in Denmark I would cast it without hesitation for Prime Minister Thorning-Schmidt and her Social Democrats, who have brought a turnaround to Denmark’s economy.

All in all I would be uneasy if I were the prime minister, but I hope I’m wrong.

But that’s a Rasmussen poll.
