However, need I remind you folks that all of the other threads on the topic were closed and one poster was temporarily banned for starting one? It’s not like we had a world of opportunity to discuss it. The Cafe Society thread was the only one left open so it got the people who had something to say.
As for all of this “That thread was a tribute to Euty and people should’ve respected that and not said anything bad about the other people involved” crap, I refer you to Mark Antony’s funeral oration in Julius Caesar.

I don’t think he is laudable as a mod. Teemings is an accomplishment, and is something to be given accolades for.
The sycophantic outrage that someone might disagree on this topic is ludicrous and goes against the very basis of the board.
With all due respect, Persephone, don’t you think that having a single pit thread to release the steam generated by this is necessary?
I am very sorry for the stress and fallout that has been caused and has fallen for you and Euty.
Quite a few have commented to me privately that they’ve gotten quite the sense of tension since this brouhaha, and I question whether this thread shouldn’t continue to let off steam and to try and return to the sub-normalcy that the board was used to.
This is simply my opinion, nothing more.
And mine. Everybody needs to burn this out once and for all. I’m sorry that Persephone’s embarassment must continue; I consider her and Euty friends and I don’t even like watching people I don’t like twist in the wind, but this has struck a nerve on this board that was raw long before I joined.

You, on the otherhand, may have a pecking-order, which ranks the Mods from 1-zed. I don’t. I merely was saying that Euty was one of many competent, great Mods here who do/did a job that is thankless, without pay, and so much better than the crap that passes for Mod-dom on other boards.
While I agree that a Pit Thread may be useful–for some of the reasons Mockingbird noted–the Cafe Society thread simply wasn’t the place for arguments over whether Euty was wrong or right. If posters felt that Eutychus didn’t deserve the accolades and/or well-wishes he received in that thread, then those same posters should have opened a Pit thread in opposition; it would have been a more appropriate forum.
That said, I’m also perfectly aware that any Pit thread about Euty’s departure and the events leading up to it will turn out to be a train wreck.

Persephone, hon, I’m sorry, and I will try to eliminate any references to you and “the situation” as they are not relevent, at least to me and to why I post to these kind of threads. For me it’s all about what kind of community this is going to be, and weather the administration is going to show the balls a 12 week old male fetus has and stand up for what’s right or are they going to continue to embrace the malaise that grips America and cover up, pass the buck and weasel about everything.
It’s all so simple, all it takes is somewilling to stand up and say “I WAS WRONG”. It’s not even that hard, hell it could be done without even diminishing the posters in question, but everyone nowadays seems to want to do anything to avoid taking responsibility for their actions. They’re all a bunch of whiney children, and that very much distresses me.

The thread in Cafe Society was out of control sadly, but I guess the administration allowed it to be that way, as I imagine a few of those posts were reported/viewed by the Admins or Mods. I guess it’s a little ironic as Euty probably would have repremanded a few posters for making Pit posts in a Cafe Society thread had he been there.
As a Cafe Society poster, I thought he did a fine job. For his role in the controversy I am withholding judgment, as I did not have access to the Mods forum or emails and prefer evidence prior to making up my mind.
And much like the Unban Satan debacle it seems that way too much mud is getting slung in the process. :mad:

OK, if this is about dan talking about whether or not “hiatus” was an accurate term, you’re correct - perhaps that wasn’t the best thread to debate that in. The only reason I said what I said (i.e., “hiatus” is, indeed, a misnomer in this case) was because people other than dan were also asking, and since it’s fairly public knowledge through other sources that Euty was indeed asked to give up his duties, I figured saying so there would quash all these “did he/didn’t he” questions people were asking. Frankly, I didn’t feel yet another Pit thread was necessary, but obviously you did.
That issue aside, I think you’ll see that both dan and I both asked Cartoon to reconsider rehashing the whole topic yet again, and in an inappropriate thread. How is that “hav[ing] a hard on to bend the thread towards a continued discussion of the merits of the flap, and how wronged Euty was?” If anything, I see it as trying to stop such a hijack.
So your solution is to start yet another thread? Yeah, that’s a great way to let the issue get put to rest once and for all. :rolleyes:

For the record, I stand by my assertion that Cartoon was being a jackass in that thread. Why is it he’ll tell me to “take it to the Pit” when I point out he’s in the wrong forum and the wrong thread when he could have done the same thing instead of attempt to derail what was a very nice farewell thread for someone who was, in a sense, outside the scope of what he was bitching about in the first place? And now that I’ve checked the thread I see Cartoon has apologized, so I thank him for that.
But, hey - as luck would have it, here samclem has gone to all the trouble of giving you (and others) a thread to continue rehashing this issue a few more times. Have fun!

I think to some extent people are trying to vent their anger and/or disappointment with each others’ behavior. It’s not about you anymore, although I am sure it feels that way.
