I have a buddy with a mutt (and he knows it’s a mutt) that’s half Jack Russell terrier and half Shitzu. In true “designer breed” style, he refers to it as a Jack-Shit.
71% I went by breeder = more posed pic, shelter = more candid.
Your score: 85%
I went by which dog looked the most like what I’d expect the two mixed breeds to look like. The only one I missed was because the pictures were too much of the face and I couldn’t see the bodies well enough. The Pugmutt was the most obvious as the breeder one was clearly the closest in coloration to what a true fawn Pug would be. The other was too reddish and obviously a mutt.
Personally, I have a pure-bred Pug and a rescue mutt of unknown type, though I suspect it’s mostly Chow and Lab because it has the muscular type and face of a Lab but the color and insane amount of undercoat shedding as a Chow.
Paying big money for a mixed breed is far more dubious than paying for a pure-bred dog.
First dog, “Yeah, I have no tail. Y que, bitch?”
Second dog: “Yup, he totally has no tail. I do. And it’s AWESOME.”
I do badly at these quizzes and I also find the “designer mutt” thing tremendously silly. That said, I once saw a doodle (great dane and poodle-- curly haired great dane, basically) which was adorable. I also once saw a noodle (newfie and poodle) which was also so cute you just wanted to squeeze him and love him and . . .sigh.
I’d never pay for that type of dog though, there are plenty at the shelters.
I got an 85%. I was going by how intelligent the dog itself looked. Shelter dogs, in my experience, are way smarter than anything from a breeder.
14% !!! I guess I’m biased in favor of the mutts…since I have 2. I guess that’s make them Rhodesa-boxa-ridger and a Great Labra-Dane.
Cross a Puggle with a Mutt, and you get Muggle pups. How d’ya like them yappies, Harry Potter?
71%. I chose by which one looked deliberately adorable. The shelter puggle looks really sweet!
My parent’s have a Labrador/German shepherd cross-it’s what happens when one family’s pedigree German Shepherd bitch digs under the fence and gets into the next door farm which has a pedigree Lab dog.
She’s very cute (like a smaller black Shepherd with Lab ears), 10 years old, and has the Lab love of water and fetching sticks, and the shepherd loyalty and ability to find and “herd” family members. She routinely goes up to my sister’s bedroom and brings her downstairs when dinner is ready!Ok, genetically it’s not a great mix (she has a little hip trouble and the beginnings of cataracts) but temperamentally, it’s perfect.
Still, I’d rather buy a mutt anyday over a purebred, they’re smarter and healthier. My folks had a Pyrenean before this dog, and while she was beautiful to look at and a sweet dog, she had no brains whatsoever and none of the hybrid vigour.
If you want a mutty looking little dog, get a mutty looking little dog from somone who will be glad for your to take it (i.e. an “accident” or a shelter), don’t pay over the odds to a breeder.
The only thing I would do when getting a pet is to get a puppy- I want to pick a name I like and train them up myself, rather than having to undo someone else’s mistakes and call the animal by a name I dislike. But that’s just my opinion.
