I’ve read the first three books. Pretty good stuff. I was trying to read thru the 4th one, but I couldn’t seem to get through the dialogue/narrative at the time, because IIRC it was written lke it was in the old west. Is it worth it?
I’m confused by how the time works between the doors. How do they work? Do they only pick up people who would help Roland to reach the Dark Tower?
The doors allow Roland to enter the mind of the person. When the person turns around. he/she can see the doorway and Roland’s world. Roland can also come through the door if necessary. The doors only opened on people Roland needed to complete his quest, though he only used Jack Mort to get the medicine and ammo he needed. It seems unlikely we’ll see any more doors.
Keep reading Wizard and Glass. It’s not as exciting as the first three, but entertaining, nonetheless.
I agree. Weren’t the doors only used to draw the three, Eddie, Susannah, and Jake (granted, the third door was Mort’s door, but IIRC, Roland altered the future through Mort so Jake didn’t die and could come back in The Wastelands, in addition to getting ammo, etc. as Mr. Blue Sky mentioned already) into Roland’s world? So now that the ka-tet is complete, drawing any one else into the world doesn’t seem necessary. Could be wrong, of course.
I also agree with what rolandgunslinger and Mr. Blue Sky have already said: read Wizard and Glass. In many ways, each of the four books is better than the others. This one is very different from the other three. It may seem dull at first, Aslan, but it’ll definitely pick up, it gives a lot of back story and has one hell of an ending. If you liked the first three, and especially if happen to particularly like Roland as a character, you’ll wind up liking it.
