I hate it that while there is lots of free stuff out there, all the cool stuff still costs a zillion dollars. It used to be Fontographer that I drooled after, but these days it’s Poser 4. I want it so bad I can taste it. Mmm… tasty Poser 4… but it’s over $200 and at this point in my life, that ain’t happening
Someone sent me another program called Fractal Poser that is like a stripped version of Poser, but it just doesn’t have the features, plus it crashed my system when I tried to use it.
How are you supposed to be a ‘starving artist’ these days when you have to be rolling in cash just to afford the tools? Boohoo!!! no fairsies.
I’m going to sit down right here and pout. So there.
Stupid people with amazing Poser galleries making me jealous. Doodie heads.
Nah, I’ve used Poser, you don’t want it, it is a one-trick-pony. It’s only useful as a starting point for producing human models for other rendering packages. So if you want Poser, the next thing you’ll want is Lightwave or Cinema7, or something even more expensive like Maya.
If you’re an artist, you don’t really need anything to produce figurative art besides a piece of paper and some charcoal, and a model to draw from. Even if it takes a lot more work, drawing from real live humans is a lot more fun. They talk back when you talk to them. And human models are a lot cheaper than Poser.
Well, my husband just gave someone one of his free copies of 3D Studio Viz, and they were bent that it wasn’t 3D Studio Max with Character Studio. I don’t even think they’re USING it–it’s just sitting in the box in their house. ARGH! That’s a coupla thousand in software just wasting away–we should found an architecture student to give it to. Sigh.
Yeah charcoal and paper works well for making rendered 3-d people on the computer.
When I want to do drawings, I do drawings. When I want a rendered 3-d human figure, I want a rendered 3-d human figure. Besides I don’t really like charcoal that much. I prefer pencil.
Since you don’t know why I want it or what I want to do with it, suggesting something like “drawing from real models” is kinda pointless.
We have a Linux box (technically we have two, but really only one counts… oh, and our server is Linux but that doesn’t count either)… I know of Gimp, but not it’s capabilities. Does it have the sort of things that Poser does?
[hijack]
Damn, girl! Nice work! Was that done with a REAL pencil or a VIRTUAL pencil?
Have Matisse in Gray on my tablet. Nice to have the direct pen-on-paper effect. Can’t imagine how those graphic artists who use mice (if there are any) do it. Too far removed.
Whereas such beautiful work can be done with MANUAL methods and whereas computer graphics software (not including CAD) is such a PAIN to use, why do people use it?
