Database of scrabble games?

I would like to do a statistical analysis on the game of Scrabble. Does anyone know of an electronic database of Scrabble games (i.e. a collection of at least a few hundred games, including the order of the plays).

There is actually a file format for sharing annotated Scrabble games online. Just search for Scrabble “annotated game file” there are dozens of sites that keep extensive tournament histories. Hereis one with a bunch of game histories and instructions about how to create the files, which you could then perhaps use to get the information into a database format for your own analysis.

Excellent, that’s exactly what I was looking for.

Just out of curiosity, what are you specifically investigating?

Mostly I’m just curious.

I want to generate “heat maps” of the board, plotting quantities like the following for each tile:

  • average score of plays involving that tile
  • average number of plays involving that tile
  • average length of words played in that tile
