Dave's Killer Bread is going national

Story on this page. It was purchased by a company in Georgia and will be available nationwide. You guys are all in for a big treat, as long as they maintain the quality. Dave’s Killer Bread was started here in Oregon by an ex-con with an extensive prison record. It’s probably the best mass-produced bread I’ve ever had, especially in the high fiber category, beating out products like Orowheat by a very wide margin. I highly recommend the 21 seed bread, when it finally reaches your neck o’ the woods.

We already get it here in San Francisco, and I agree it is very good. However, all those seeds do add to the calorie count, so if one is watching his calories he should be aware that he is getting 140-150 calories per slice instead of 100-120.

It is a sacrifice, but I had to stop eating it for that reason. Now I eat the Safeway store brand of whole wheat (90 calories), which (to me) also beats Oroweat for flavor and texture. Sad for Oroweat.

Is he an actual killer?

No. He did time for armed robbery and for dealing meth. He was also an addict. The guy was a depressed, violent man, and still suffers from depression. Last year he got himself into some serious trouble when he rammed a couple of cop cars with his Escalade. The cops described him as a person who seemed to be having “a mental breakdown.” The company was actually owned by his brother and they decided to put Dave up as the front man at some point, emphasizing his redemptive story. Each loaf has a cartoon drawing of Dave on the wrapper.

We have it here in Texas, but I’ve never bought it. It’s hard to say why exactly it irritates me whenever I see it. What am I to make of it other than an attempt to market bread as somehow masculine, macho. We’re of course used to that kind of silliness from barbecue. And in this case the product didn’t look any different from what could just as well have been called “Molly McHippie’s Slightly Upmarket Organic Wheat and Hugs Bread”.

I LOVE their Good Seed bread and have touted it here on the SDMB. We’re lucky enough to have an outlet for it here in my city. Regularly it’s $5 and more per loaf, but we can get day-old for 2/$5. I haven’t bought bread at the grocery store since this place opened earlier in the year.

I can’t say enough good things about this bread. i hope it doesn’t get screwed up.

When do we expect the AMC series Breaking Bread?

It’s been in some of my local (Seattle-area) stores for a while, and I don’t understand the excitement. If I was going to eat it as toast, it would be pretty good in that role. It’s not at all suited to other bread purposes, like sandwiches.

Orowheat is specifically my example of a far superior product, and that’s what we buy instead. Oatnut or Multigrain are my wife’s go-to, and I alternate between their various flavors of rye bread (Jewish, Russian, dark, dill and extra sour are all equally good to me).

I know that when I have a sandwich, I like to get a handful of gritty, gravel-like nuts and seeds in every bite.

It was worth reading this thread just to catch your horrible, wonderful pun. Thank you!

I am famous for bad prose – literally.

Have you actually tried it? Or do you prefer your bread tasteless, like some others? I like just plain white bread for some things, but this stuff makes for a very good sandwich.

I like it a lot. It makes great toast. The only thing I don’t like is that it’s a little bit sweet. I wish they’d reduce or cut out the sugars, then it’d be perfect for me.

At the end of each loaf, left in the bag, is easily a tablespoon of crunchy seeds to munch on.

Bad timing to introduce killer bread.

Baking Bread, surely.

For distribution in Missouri it will be re-branded as Dave’s Drug Violation Bread.

Superior?? Have you compared ingredients? I’m not crazy about all the Dave’s varieties; some are better than others, but my favorites beat Oroweat in every category. By a mile.
