Mattel is producing a Barbie doll dressed as Ziggy Stardust.

I’m guessing this is aimed at collectors rather than children.

The doll isn’t Bowie (or Ziggy). The doll is Barbie [del]doing cosplay Ziggy[/del] inspired by Ziggy.
I would not buy one for my child, although many years ago I might have bought one for me.
My children absotively know who David Bowie is. A classical education is important, you know. 
The OP has never heard of collector Barbies? Most of them aren’t really subjects that would interest children.

If the barbie is doing cosplay, I guess that changes what I was going to say, but I was surprised that it wasn’t a little more gender-bendy.
Also, I’m surprised they went with Ziggy Stardust proper instead of just calling it David Bowie and having the barbie dress up as Aladdin Sane (the character with the face paint that many people associate with Bowie/Ziggy). It would be much more recognizable and probably command twice the price.

It looks very amateurish. Almost like it was made by some absolute beginner.
Is it made of plastic? Or is it a china doll?
There’s no accounting for fashion I guess, even with all the changes it brings. Maybe it will be worth something in 5 years?
