Chalk another one up for Young Americans. It’s kind of a one off, and may not grab you on the first listen, but let it get it’s hooks into you and you’re in for a big reward. It’s great (IMHO). There’s also a DVD-Audio version that gives you a 5.1 mix by Tony Visconti - who mixed the original studio version. It sounds wonderful on a half decent system. Couldn’t live without it.
I can’t get enough of this soundtrack, either, and “As the World Falls Down” is one of my all-time favorite Bowie songs. “Within You” ranks pretty high up there for me, too (that entire MC Escher-esque scene still rocks my world).
Now with late hours at work and two infants at home, I don’t have much time to go to the store. I plan on getting them this week-end and after my purchases I’ll report back here. Thanks again everybody for the suggestions.
When Ryko re-issued them, my sister bought them all, from Sound + Vision in 1989 through Scary Monsters in 1992.
Other than Ziggy Stardust, my favorites are Diamond Dogs, The Man Who Sold the World, and Pin-Ups.
Yes, Portuguese, sung by Brazilian artist Seu Jorge. I don’t have the soundtrack but I have the film on DVD. That’s one of the things I enjoy about it (the Portuguese translation of Bowie songs.)
