David Cross and Johnny Marr cover parody of U2's "One"

Wow, how’s that for obscure? Apparently a video made its way to Youtube with some Bank of America executives singing a version of U2’s “One,” with the lyrics changed to be about banking. Then comedian David Cross got on stage at a Modest Mouse concert and sang the Bank of America version of “One,” backed up by the newest member of Modest Mouse, legendary guitarist Johnny Marr (formerly of the Smiths)! It’s pretty funny, and you can read the ridiculous lyrics underneath:

I’m trying to decide if the original video is a parody of BofA’s ridiculous slogans or shameless asskissing.

Somewhere, Bono is crying.

In the words of the Onion A.V. Club’s “Hater blog”:

So am I. Some of these corporate types need a reality hammer in the nuts.

I don’t know what is worse. The dork who re-wrote the lyrics and got on stage or the poor sap in the meeting thinking “say, this young man sure has talent”.

Hammertime for both I’m sure.

It does make sense David Cross jumped on this. This is right up his alley.

Stonking. I give it 320 milliBert-BinLadens.
