How much do you spend on the ecig a day?
Well, the initial setup might be around 80.00. I say go get a good kit, and do NOT, whatever you do, get the ones at a smoke shop. Even the 50 dollar ones at the smoke shops are terrible, really awful. After that, for me the only cost is liquid and cheap cartridges, which I just got 5 for 2 dollars. (They’re normally 5 for 4 dollars) Also got all that online. The tips/cartridges are re-useable…the liquid, well, haven’t ever run out of any yet. I’d say maybe 10-15 dollars a month?
That’s just my guess right now though, someone who’s been using them steadily for longer than I have might have more input.
If I refill my own cartridges, about a buck.
If I use prefilled cartridges (which I mostly do, 'cause I like the convenience and the taste), my preferred brand (Mistic) is ~$2.75 per cartridge, sold in packs of 5 at Walmart. I’m a total pleb. I like the convenience of being able to walk into a store, and I like the cigarette styles more than the other styles and this “cheap brand” far better than the expensive set ups I’ve tried.
I used to be a pack a day smoker. Now I’m a cartridge a day vaper. I vape pretty much constantly except when I’m actually working with a patient. But with vaping, that means take a puff or two, set it down, type some, pick it up again, take another puff, put it down again for a few minutes…you don’t have to worry about them burning up unsmoked in the ashtray, and you don’t have to “finish” one in 10 minutes.
Smokes are $9 a pack in my city. Vaping is much cheaper for me.
The guy at that “Taste Your Juice” site recommends starting with a KGO setup if you don’t want to invest a lot of money. He has a video about it.
I can’t remember where I was reading it, but someone estimated that a moderate vaper (smoker) would spend about $50/mo (after purchasing equipment). But who knows what “moderate” is… and there are about a gazillion flavors I want to try. If I bought 3ml bottles of all of those, I’d probably have a couple years worth of e-juice.
So, got an email today. The web site said it would take them 6-10 days to process my order, but it shipped today! I’m really hoping that it is both the e cig and the juices that I ordered. I’m so happy that they actually shipped something the day before a holiday!
happy spinning in my chair
I got some new flavours of juice today! I’m sucking on the gummy cola candy flavour and it is SO good. I was nowhere near running out on my old stash, but I wasn’t impressed with the flavours I got before. The first batch I ordered, I ordered the in-house brand from a site that had a lower shipping threshold and after the novelty wore off, I stopped tasting the flavours. This time, I ordered from a local site with a great reputation and the juice is amazing.
Definitely take the advice upthread about ordering small quantities to test out what you like. Right now I have a few 30ml bottles that I know I won’t touch again.
Another question, please
How about kissing? If you kiss someone can they taste it?
I’m told that they can taste me after a passionate kiss!
My favorites (from Volcano): Choconilla Haze and Bluewater Punch.
Juice: I drip only. At my regular vendor a 30 mL bottle costs $12.50, and buying 4 puts me at the $50 free shipping mark. Those 4 bottles last five to six weeks.
Atomizers: I dunno, about one per month on average. I usually buy four or five every few months, at $5 or $6 a piece.
Batteries: I just bought a new pair for $28. The previous pair lasted six months. They were still fine, I just wanted to replace them before they went out.
I’d say the whole enchilada it’s costing me a bit less than $2 per day.
So, I got my starter kit about 4pm yesterday (Sat) and have not had an analog cigarette since (I ran out of them and just didn’t buy more).
I like the equipment I bought, it seems like very good quality.
My first battery lasted 24 hrs before I had to swap out and re-charge. So, I could definitely leave the house in the morning and use this all day no matter how late I get home from work.
I’m glad that I bought a wintergreen juice with ZERO nicotine in it. It took me a while to figure out the cartomizers and stuff. More than once, stuff got spilled on my fingers or on my lips or tongue. One time, it was with a 6mg nicotine liquid… that burned like all get out… and I started getting a headache working with that stuff… so I stuck to the 0mg (NO) nicotine juice until I got down the mechanics of it all down and only use nicotine when I felt a REALLY wanted a ‘cigarette’.
One of my liquids is 18mg “full strength” – that knocks me on my butt! So I only use this when I start fantasizing about finding a lost cigarette in the truck or mugging friends for an analog cigarette. One or two hits of that and I seem to be okay for a couple hours.
It definitely satisfies the physical part of my ‘smoking habit’ and that is probably what will make it so that I can quit (chain) smoking cigarettes. I’m still switching from the habit of picking up a cigarette to vaping on this thing. Once I get the physical habit substituted, I don’t think I’ll be as bad about craving analog cigarettes.
Vaping is definitely 1000% better than any other thing I’ve tried. Normally, right now, I would be willing to walk barefoot in a snow storm to buy a pack of cigarettes… I am no where near that… I’m more along the lines of wishing that a smoking friend would happen by so I could bum just one cigarette…
So, have put away the ash tray and am working on getting rid of the analog related stuff. I now have a largish bag of disposable lighters found everywhere. The nice thing is that I can now ‘smoke’ while I watch TV and, if I wanted to, I could ‘smoke’ reading in bed because there really is no fire hazard with these things. They’re no more dangerous than your cell phone. So, that is REALLY nice and a bit of a bonus.
And, now that I’ve tried it, I have gone on line to order some more liquid/flavors and a tank, since these cartomizers are really sort of a pain.
Someone up thread mentioned testing and effects. Below is a link to a 3hr ‘broadcast’ where most of the broadcast is an interview with a Greek Cardiologist who’s run some extensive comparisons between analog smoking and vaping. The first 1.5 hours he covers previous testing and basic heart functions, then the last part he goes over his actual testing on smokers/vapers. He specifically looked at blood nicotine levels, detailed heart function…I think CO2… I forget what else. But, in his tests, vaping is only different from non-smoking in blood nicotine levels and one heart function.
Disclaimer: He was a smoker at the time of testing and switched to vaping during the process of his testing. The study only compares 20 vapers to 20 smokers. He was self funded, but is actively seeking funding as he does his rounds or disusing the results of this study. (He is presenting his results as what sound like SIGNIFICANT forums in the US and UK… like: European Society of Cardiology Congress in Munich, Germany)
DUH… here’s the link: - YouTube
Those have been banned in Europe. On the basis that a scientific study had shown that they were delivering more nicotine into the body than existing brands of cigarettes.
The fact that the authors of the study stated that their study was misinterpreted by the EU MP who presented the bill and absolutely didn’t say that of course didn’t change a thing.
The max level now is 16 mg.

I generally feel sorry for those who seek to use ecigs in places other than the USA…here, the regulations are fairly blase, and juice and hardware is readily available. However, I sense this may soon change, as various states are starting to implement regulation and legislation that either taxes the hell out of electronic cigarettes, or prohibit them all together. There is some debate between the hardware and the liquid, and to what extent each would be regulated. Some proposed regulations would allow things such as hookah pens, essentially a toy, to continue(because these generally do not contain nicotine), while drastically hindering the availability of ecig devices that actually do assist in quitting smoking. If you follow the YouTube ecig personalities, you will notice there has been a lot of conversation about this as of late.
I would not say that e-cigs help stop smoking, I would say that they prevent smoking as long as e-cigs are available. That is certainly true in my case. My physician is delighted.
Right. This is how many dietary supplements are marketed. It “may” “support” your body’s natural <whatever>. They go as far as they can to imply that it’s medicine while at the same time making sure that they put enough on the label to legally deny that it is medicine.
Wait, I said what? checks date Oh! Hey, look, a zombie me.
Yeah, pretty much. In the years since this thread was started, we have learned…not a whole lot. No smoking guns of badness, although they’re still trying to find some. Once in a while a scientist will burn an atomizer too hot and the press wets themselves with stories of “toxins” in vapor.
There have been only three studies worth speaking of to examine whether ecigs and the newer vaporizors help people quit tobacco. Two say yes, one says no, but all of them have their fair share of flaws.
The American Heart Association is tepidly in favor of vaping, and calls for more safety studies.
Many states and municipalities have now regulated the use of ecigs and vaporizers in public spaces.
I’m still not using tobacco. I have “graduated” to an eGo style battery and tank, and now make my own fluid, which makes the nicotine level less of a mystery. (I had gone all the way down to 0 nicotine for a while and put on weight. Talked to my doctor about it, and decided the risks of nicotine without smoke are probably less than the risks of even greater obesity, so I’ve gone back to 12mg/mL of nicotine and the weight gain stopped.) I still vape about a one pack equivalent a day. I don’t have the gunky chest cough or discomfort I had with smoking. I smell better. I’m still pretty happy with it.
Try keto and go back to zero mg. I’ve not tried 0 mg, yet (I’m at 8 mg), but after kicking smoking, it was time to work on the weight, and keto (for me) has been to weight loss as vaping is to smoking. (keto = ketogenic diet, essentially, nearly zero carb).
