De-Trumpification: Repairing the extensive damage

Yeah, the public has a short memory. If the Dems manage to elect a good president in 2028, Canada will be fine with us in a year or two.

Nice.

An exercise in futility.

These are all great suggestions.

But I disagree that a Consitutional amendment (or amendments) is out of the question. It would require bipartisan support, of course, but the voters on both sides of the aisle are pretty fired up right now about corruption.

I’d love an amendment to stop corruption, but how would one be worded?

Not just restore, make that restoration a, preferably forced, education on how that spending has and will benefit Americans.

Why bother when you can’t count on any Congress to enforce the limits on the Presidency that already exist in the Constitution?

You can’t just “stop corruption,” but you can go after specific corrupt acts.

Eliminating the pardon power entirely is pretty self-explanatory. The hard part would be if you wanted to keep some vestige of it in case of miscarriages of justice (which was the original point of it). But the current practice of giving pardons to the President’s allies lends itself to corruption. I understand why President Biden pardoned his son—because he was unfairly targeted by the incoming administration—but it was still a bad look.

As for money in politics leading to corruption of the political process, here’s an example amendment from a few years ago:

That’s a problem, too. Maybe don’t leave it up to Congress. The issue with many of these limits (like prohibiting foreign emoluments) is that there is no enforcement mechanism. Maybe pass laws providing a means to enforce them, or giving standing to some entity so that they can be enforced in the federal court system.
