Never thought about that at school, or perhaps its because the two best teachers have both passed away only after I left.
The headmaster passed away after suffering Parkinsons and then a complication of some tests on his brain. But it really sucked that our physics teacher died. He had suffered a brain tumour two years ago and all seemed ok until just recently when he very quickly became ill again and died.
I always loved his classes, apart from the fact that I liked physics, you could always guarantee 15mins of chit chat on topics that were mostly (but not always!) related to physics. The less scrupulous could pad this out on unrelated topics, but it was general on topic
Outside of the class he would enforce strict discipline just like the other vice-principal, but back inside class you could laugh. He was a terror for 1st year students, being the teacher responsible for whiteboard markers, any young pupils might be asked if a teacher wanted white markers or to check if they voted Labour or Conservative to see if they needed red or blue markers
He leaves behind quite a few children, who can’t have left home if memory serves me correctly. Sadder than I would have imagined at school
