Deadwood: 4/10

What Sam said - the look that they exchanged at the very end.

Maybe, but it’s not much of a cathouse without any cats.

I didn’t get a chance to see it Sunday, so I watched it on my PVR on Monday. Normally, I dive-bomb this thread about five minutes after the show ends…

So, you think we’re heading for some major fireworks?

It could be a cathouse empty, condemned and burned to the ground, and I still dn’t think she’d give up. Presumably she’ll regroup. I’m wondering whether the Chinese whores may be available, for one. Plus, she still has title to the property, presumably-- and there’s still the matter of her backer. And she has to replace the $1,400 she borrowed.

I think these little oligarchies forming are shaping up into a nice power struggle. Sam Stone’s analysis of the principals is pretty good, although I respectfully disagree that Cy and Joannie will ever turn on each other over this matter. Also, it’ll be interesting watching Mayor E.B. bounce back and forth between his loyalties to Al and his obligations to Wolcott/Hearst. I can’t wait to see if the Widow Garret succeeds in getting the hotel. Miss Isringhausen is one to watch, too.

Hosteler and the Nigger General are an interesting pair. I wonder if they haven’t overlayed their hand with the horsefucker. Good to see Franklin Ajaye working again.

Hey, Sam. I was wondering if you’d show up this week. I enjoy your contributions to these Deadwood threads and after an episode as intense as the last one, I was looking forward to to seeing your input.

I don’t know what just happened. I wrote a long post responding to Sam and it reposted my last post for some reason.

Anyway, the summary was that there are so many balls in the air, it’s impossible to predict what’s going to happen.

This series is steadily growing on me; I caught most of the first season on rerun, and was only mildly interested.

But I tuned in with the new season and it just gets better every episode.

Just saw this weeks episode, and y’all are right about the contrast. On the one hand, we have grisley murders. On the other, we have a moment in which Mr. Wu is trying to figure out why Al cares about how many Jews the San Francisco Cocksucker has.

Am I the only one thinking that Bullock isn’t going to care for chinese slaves working as prostitutes in his town?

Aren’t the Chinese prostitutes being brought in to service potential new Chinese miners imported to work in Deadwood by Hearst and Mr. W?

Yeah.

I don’t think Joanie could set up with Chinese whores in the Chez . . . racism would prevent Chinese girls from being as valuable as white girls. Joanie wants her place to be high-toned.

It would not be in the least bit difficult for her to get more white whores. Al could assist her with this and she could have the place open by next week.

In next week’s previews, Joanie tells Cy that when she left the Chez Amie, all three of them were still alive, and Cy says he’s curious about what happened to the other three, and he sounds angry.

It’s hard to tell if he’s upset that Joanie acted on her own to protect the whores, or if he’s upset that Wolcott won’t have any more whores to kill, or that Joanie’s place is closed before she could pay him back all the money Eddy stole from him to set her up.

It’s not the way a guy would act if he was welcoming her back to the safety of the Bella Union, glad that she’s alive, and willing to forgive her stab at independence and get back to whatever passes as normal for Cy.

Then Cy makes that comment to Seth about “that’s not an ox you want to gore”.

Looks like Cy doesn’t want his association with Wolcott and Hearst to end just yet. Talk about shortsighted. He can’t win.
