My point was… unless the Pope sneaked in a rule change while the football was on, Catholic priests don’t have adult heterosexual relationships…
I would reverse your assertion that “being a Catholic priest is an excellent reason to be concerned about predeliction to raping children.” to “being someone with a prediliction to raping children is an excellent reason to be a Catholic Priest”.
By the same logic Catholic priests don’t have sex with children, because it’s against church teachings. Except for when they do.
I won’t debate how much of molestation by Catholic priests is done by gay priests v. hetero priests because I honestly don’t know how much of the molestation is pedophilia (e.g. pre-pubescent) v. how much is ephebophilic (i.e. post-pubescent) in nature, besides which it is very difficult to find information on the adult sex-drives of men who are supposed to be celibate. While the vast majority of Catholic priests are neither pedophiles or ephebophiles, I think that with those who are would probably fit a different profile from most molesters anyway in that who they sexually violate is borne of convenience, but I state again that this is my opinion and not based on scholarly research into the subject. Personally, I think that any man who signs away lifelong rights to a sexual outlet is either already disturbed or asking for trouble- while it’s possible to live a celibate life, it’s not easy and many would argue it isn’t healthy either (especially when you’re encouraging all around you in the beauty of sex because it brings children).
