I’m not so sure, and that’s what bugs me about the thread closing, I guess. I’m not entirely certain whether there wouldn’t have been just as much indignation over the premise regardless of how it was phrased.
I could also easily see someone misreading the inflammatory nature of the question, given it isn’t much of a “hot button” issue. It’s a warm button at best, and if this has been a long standing polarizing debate I was honestly unaware of it until this moment. If I had opened the thread, I would have been more reserved perhaps, but I could see me overstepping the bounds of propriety accidently.
I would have been interested to see the thread progress, and see some explainations from the cat folks as well. Maybe move it to GD instead? It’s too late now, and I don’t miss it aside from general curiosity, but it would have made a great discussion, IMO.

He DID say “you are all animal abusers”, just not using those words. Everybody understands its implicit meaning, including you. It’s indirect enough to be plausibly deniable by the weaselly-inclined, but I don’t think astro would deny it. astro’s objection is to feeling characterized as being some kind of ongoing source of trouble.
My statement was in response to Guinastasia’s claim that his wording was the issue. Even you seem to admit that his opinions were the real issue.
And as I said already, I don’t see why it’s a problem that he may think that. It is his opinion and he should be able to express it. There is nothing offensive or derogatory in it.

Go back and read CrazyCatLady’s second post in this thread, where she explains very clearly that this subject HAS been debated, many times, with strong feelings on both sides, but without the shit-stirring hyperbole that astro used.
See some explanations form cat people? Did you read the thread? Cat people explained, over and over again, why they choose indoor-only or indoor/outdoor. How many times must roadkill, coyotes, sicko animal torturers, bird-killing, and individual cat attitudes toward freedom be mentioned before it dawns on you that, ummmmm, yeh, maybe these people do have some shred of rationale for their positions? Crikey, I stayed out of contributing to that thread because everything I would have said had BEEN said, several times, by the time I got there.
