An acquaintance of mine was found dead in his apartment in Peoria, Illinois, after a period of several very hot days in July. (That is, he had been dead for several days.) The smell of the decomposing body was what alerted neighbors to this fact. After the authorities hauled off the body, they dusted everything in the apartment with some sort of disinfectant. I have a number of books from the apartment that were dusted as well.
Can anyone tell me what disinfectants are commonly used in situations like this, or describe the procedure for dealing with decomposing bodies and a person’s personal effects? Don’t know whether this is relevant, but this was not a crime scene" Rather, it was an accidental death involving a lot of blood loss.
