December 21, 2012: Too Early To Plan Our SDMB Doomsday Party?

In case you are not aware of the December 21, 2012 doomsday predictions, just Google the date.

I was thinking this might be the perfect date for the first ever, SDMB International Video Conference Call Party!

I envision seeing everyone wearing tinfoil hats, drinks in hand, counting down the seconds to doomsday and then yelling “Hi Opal!” at the stroke of midnight GMT!

We still have time to plan.

We need a menu, some party favors, decorations, drinks and live entertainment.
(My hope is that those of you who believe this truly will be the end of the world wouldn’t mind pulling out your VISA cards and paying for this event.)

So, party suggestions?

Shouldn’t we party on the 20th?

You know, just so we’ll live long enough to enjoy it?

Party on the 21st, though, and you won’t have to worry about a hangover.

You know, I can never understand the appeal of doomsday prophecy – if you’re wrong, you’ll get laughed at, but if you’re right, you won’t even get to say ‘I told you so’. Just looks like a shitty expected payoff. No, if I knew for certain that inevitable doom were to hit us on, oh, say Tuesday, June 23rd, 2008, at roughly 9:38 CET, why, I’d keep my mouth shut and make for Tahiti to spend my last months drinking mojitos on the beach, not running around like a headless chicken and having nobody take me seriously. At best I’d distribute some oblique references largely at random.
Oh, gotta go, the taxi to the airport’s here!
