Deciduous trees

I was wondering, is there a word for when trees drop their leaves for winter? I know it happens in autumn, and trees that do it are deciduous, whats the word for the actual process? Not shedding… surely there must be a word that specifically refers to leaves shedding for winter.

leaf fall.

oh that’s two words.
sorry.

It’s called ‘dropping’.

Hit submit early. Dropping or leaf “senescence” is the process of shutting down the leaf process and dropping the leaves for winter surivival as well as drought survival.

And I’m back to say that a landscaper here says he has read about it and it was also called ‘shedding’ in some books.

Take your pick. Sorry about the three post fiasco.

Abscission.
Abscisic Acid plays a central role in the process.
