Not too far from my home, there is a billboard with the simple message “The real Supreme Court meets up here. -God” or something very similiar to that. Silly as it may sound, I am not exactly sure whose side they’re on and what they are trying to say. It is in a section of town right on the border of a predominantly African-American/Democrat area and a more conservative, predominantly white area. So it could be directed at either group.
The reference to God doesn’t help since African Americans in my area tend to be very religious anyways, irregardless of party affiliation. (BTW, I usually vote Democrat in elections.) Does anyone know what they are trying to say ?
Sounds a bit like, “God’s law is above the law of the land.” You should seek out the messengers and ask them why they hate America? This billboard was made by Christian Anarchists, a growing and increasingly troubling fundamentalist minority.
Sounds like it’s starting from the meme of “the courts are trying to outlaw God” that often appears whenever the issue of church/state separation comes up.
Though I’m somewhat disturbed by the relgious taking over American life, I found those billboards clever and amusing. Especially, “Don’t make me come down there.” I tend to feel the group behind them has the right idea about God. I mean, he has to have a sense of humor.
When I read some of those messages written by “God” I’m struck by the feeling that Cecil actually may have penned some of them. Same sense of humor. Hmm?..I wonder…
I think the underlying message is “It doesn’t matter what the Supreme Court tells you is legal - you’ll still have to answer for your actions when you get here (or not)”
I’m an atheist but I get a kick out of the God billboards. I particularly like the “Keep using my name in vain. I’ll make rush hour longer.”
