I have a halloween party every year, and try to make it as elaborate as possible. So, I need some opinions / suggestions on the decor:
I want to do all of the walls and furniture in one room in orange and black. However, I don’t want to go so crazy as to paint the walls or anything - is there anything in the way of temporary wallpaper or anything that will be fairly easy to put up and remove?
Suggestions on where I can get or how I can make realistic skulls (human and other…)?
Buy some cheap sheets and some fabric dye and make your own orange and black wall coverings.
I’ve found any number of skulls, realistic and otherwise, at various local party stores. Some malls have specialty Halloween shops that open up in September. There’s always eBay.
For bloody walls, you might need to invest in some equipment. The only way off the top of my head I can come up with is to get some sort of a pump like what would be used in a garden water feature. Hook it up to a hidden “blood” reservoir and run perforated tubing along the ceiling (disguised by the sheets you dyed, perhaps?). Flip a switch and start the bleeding. Put up plastic sheeting along the wall to prevent staining.
IANAInterior Designer and I have no idea how well any of these suggestions will work.
When we looked at the house we bought, the walls of one room were covered in purple mylar; you might be able to get rolls of black & orange cheap and then just put it up with tape.
My big plan for this year is to put up a big spiderweb across one end of our front porch; it’ll be about eight feet across, sloping up from the front door to the corner of the roof over the porch. I’ll use clothesline for the webbing, and attach a big rubber spider (about 2’ across, including legs) up near the top. Then I’ll take a little kid’s spiderman costume or something like that, stuff it full of newspapers, wrap it up with clothesline, and attach it to the web. Then get a kid’s candy bucket, put some candy in it, spill more on the floor under the web, and lay the bucket on its side under the “body.”
That oughta keep the little varmints off my doorstep… too bad the budget won’t cover the BIG spider (about 4’ across); $70 is a bit much for a one-day-a-year kind of thing. Although it would make a cool hood ornament…
