Deck The Halls With Smith and Wesson

Just saw an ad in The Oregonian for a “Holiday Sale” at a local gun shop. It was complete with holly, snowflakes and other symbols of the season. At least they didn’t have a picture of baby Jesus.

Wesson. Smith and Wesson.

Are the “Smith and Weston” models on sale because they’re cheap knockoffs of Smith & Wesson?

Sailboat

Good for them. Why, exactly, is this a problem?

Incidentally, I prefer Rugers, Sigs, and Glocks myself. That would get my attention a hell of a lot faster than an ad for Smith and Wesson, what with their failure-prone internal locks and all.

Hey, I’m buying my kid a gun for Christmas. Why shouldn’t I get sales too?

For the season in which we celebrate The Prince of Peace who preached turn the other cheek it seems ironic and disrepectful. But then I never got the attractions of guns (obviously from my spelling :smack: ).

Praise God and pass the ammunition.

Or, since we’re decking with Smith and Weston, as they say in my Science chatroom games: Praseodymium and pass the Ammonites!

How about the attraction of capitalism or the attraction of the idea that guns are not inherently violent? Either of those grab you?

Yeah, because we know the only thing guns can be used for is killing people. Got it.

But…You’ll shoot your eye out!

Matthew 10:34 (I think) “Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law”

Would a sword sale would be ok? What if I use the gun I buy on sale for something other than killing people? Since only a small fraction of my guns have ever been used against a person, the odds are pretty high that the “Prince of Peace” would be more bothered by my worshiping the old gods, I suspect.

Count me in the “meh. Why shouldn’t gun owners/buyers/fans get sales during the holiday season along with everyone else?” category.

It’s the season of spending money, and while I don’t anticipate spending money on guns or gun related stuff, I’m not seeing any great harm in an ad like the one you describe. Especially if they are mostly non-religous symbols like holly and snowflakes.

I come not to bring peace but a .357.

Besides, if what you are concerned about is the gun, rather than the consumerism inherent in Christmas, then the point of Christ’s message has already been lost.

There is nothing inherently hypocrtical about having a sale on Guns on Christmas. What’s inherently hypocritical is having a sale on ANYTHING on Christmas.

After all the only time homeboy ever got violent was with people engaging in commerce in the Temple.

People have to acquire the guns before they can beat them into plowshares.

This is America people… Peace through superior firepower.

And my Beretta gives me a great deal of peace of mind.

Guns dont kill people? What do I need all these weapons for then? Oh yeah people kill people. I’ve done enough, but will again if I have to.

Why is that hypocritical?

Because most businesses aren’t even open on Christmas?

Smith and Wesson is an inappropriate choice. Everybody knows Jesus favored Colts.

That still wouldn’t make it hypocritical. In fact, I can think of lots of situations where it would be hypocritical NOT to sell something on Christmas (sale or no sale). At least if said seller is a Christian. Human needs don’t cease to exist on Christmas.
