Seems to me that guns were developed to keep people FROM being killed by those who intend to kill them with any other kind of weapon. Also, defense does not automatically = death. The fact that someone HAS a gun, and you know that, is incentive enough in most cases to keep your hands in your pockets and your big mouth shut.
