My deepest condolences to you and your family, Marley. We buried 4 family members within a year in 2007-2008, including a 6 year old. It sucks. There’s nothing in the world that sucks as bad. Truthfully, it will never stop sucking, but it will get easier to deal with the suckiness.
One bit of advice I can pass on from my experiences; dedicate someone to being responsible for making and keeping a list of everything that gets sent to the house, who it’s from (including LAST names – they’re often not on gift cards!) and gathering up addresses. And tell them that when they have to leave, it is their responsibility to hand the job off to someone else, not to just leave it hanging. It will be a HUGE help when sending out thank you notes.
