Define "noir"

C’est mio.

Is that you-o?

Almost all of my film classes showed one film a week with three hours of discussion about it - plus required outside viewing of whatever was in theatres or arthouses or available at the video store (a Film Major was fun - but it was time consuming). With the advent of DVD, you could provide a list of films for people to choose from outside of class to get the bredth - and ask for an essay which does a compare/contrast on these films and make them watch three or four (you may want to suggest they stick to a theme - parody Noir or Western Noir), then use classtime to watch and do in depth on three or four more. Bredth seemed far more important than depth.
