Define your region (of the US) with a yes/no question

Is this really only NYC? I thought I’d heard “on line” more widely in the U.S.

Is it proper slang to order your cheesesteak wit or witout (grilled onions)?

Yes=South Jersey/Philly

Standing “on line” versus “in line” is something that sounds really odd to me. I’ve only heard it as a NYC thing.

I adopted the expression when I first came here (originally to NY) from the U.K. I never realized until now that it’s not used by other Americans.

Do the people in your state not even agree how to pronounce the name of your state?

Yes = Missouree/Missourah/Missouruh

Can you see a border of the state from where you are standing?

yes: North Dakota

I lived in Manhattan for three years and never got used to it. It’s definitely weird. And lawyers who are in trial say they are “on trial” which is just wrong on every level.

Is it normal in Kentucky to be on line at the Rural King checkout, and have the overalls-wearing guy in front of you buying shirts, a bag of candy orange slices (which he had to squeeze to check freshness), and two boxes of bullets?

Yep.

Are there states where you can’t see the border?

That sounds like our Farm and Fleet. Looking at Rural King’s website (since I’d never heard of it), I noticed that Rural King’s site and Farm and Fleet’s site are oddly similar.

In other states, there are hills blocking the view in some places. And trees.

To be fair, this question applies to Texas as well, for the university represented by the aforementioned Longhorns.

Do residents of your state constantly criticize its shortcomings, but become fiercely defensive when outsiders do the same?

Yes = Kansas

Don’t all states do that?

I dunno. Never lived anywhere else.

Do you overhear the locals referring to Illinois residents using terms of “affection” such as “Flatlander” or FIB" (“Fucking Illinois Bastard/Bitch”)?

Yes = Wisconsin

Did the southern part of your state vote to secede from the northern part in 1980?

Yes=New Jersey. Story

And sometimes, the curvature of the earth

Colorado?

You know, there are other states with that distinction even if they don’t make such a BIG DAMN DEAL over it.

Without any other context, does the phrase “The City” refer to San Francisco?
Yes = San Francisco Bay area
