And I’ve got some counterexamples on the sate thing: Someone driving from Key West to Pensacola would likely take 12 hours (confirmed via Google Maps just now). Kootenai Falls, MT to Hammond, MT would also take 12 hours.

According to Google Maps, Mexico to Oregon on the 5 in Cali is just over 12 hours.
Sure. I guess they could ask “Can you drive in one direction for 12 hours and not leave the state?” I figure Alaska could change that to 24 hours since they could split into two states and make Texas the 3rd largest state.

There are federal and state regulations for “roundabouts” in California. Stockton CA also has regulations for “traffic circles”, which are different. I assume other cities do, too.
