Forgive my ignorance but I only very recently discovered that Koran actually translates to ‘recitation’; I always assumed it was a name, for some reason, but when the question came up in a 3-way option list, including religion and faith, I went for the latter. This leads me to wonder, if recitation then is such an important part of Islamic worship, how would a Muslim who was mute devote themself?
Islam requires that a person follow the faith in full but it makes allowances for situations where that is not possible for example if halal food is not available then a muslim is permitted to eat non-halal food rather than starve to death.
There is a hadith which has Allah saying "If I command you to do a thing, then do as much of it as you can.” Since the mute person cannot recite the quran then it would be sufficient if he knows and has learnt what is required of him by islam.
