How many times should I defrag my drives , it seems like everytime I do it it doesn’t really defreg it all the way. I’ve defragged like 5 times in a row help me out!
This has been answered many times here if you make a search. Well, it’s been answer many times here even if you don’t make a search. The easiest way is to go to Safe Mode and then defrag, or download a free utility: enditall (www.enditall.com). If you have any programs running in the background, you’ll never get it to defrag all the way.
Your mileage may vary as a function of different operating systems. If you are on a Mac (possibly also true of other OS’s) you can’t completely defragment the drive you’re booted from, or the drive containing applications that are currently running. (This is also true for certain types of data file, though that is less common).
Boot from a CD (or from a different drive/partition) and then you can defrag the whole thing and optimize it.
Run Norton (or other brand of disk check and repair utility) before defragmenting. This is also best accomplshed while booted from other media.
