“Moving the goalposts?” whatever, man. I’m doing nothing of the sort. Of course I’m not saying the CwA was the only thing involved in the election, but Dean says it was of major importance Gingrich says it was of major importance, and that jibes with my memory of the election. I’ve already addressed the misleading polls way back in post 70. Your idea that it was not especially important is nonsense.

No he does not, the best the report can say is “seems”
IMHO a weasel way (not by you, but by the report) to raise the level of importance of the CwA.
Your position only works by ignoring the items at end of the last report cited. And it has to be said, it not a big difference or deal. Really.
Forgot to add, that it seems you did ignore that it does not jibe with mine. (all memories being equal when anecdotes are brought into a discussion)
Once again your position is based on the opposition the left raised (I need to mention here that that made me happy then), But my memories are sadly based on the Right wing message of the day: the radio in my house and at commute time was right wing radio. Besides being the kidnapper in chief, in that year the right wing propaganda told us that Clinton was also without a compass, and a criminal too.
No, actually, it’s not based on that, merely buttressed by that.
Daniel
I must admit this would be an arguement I’d be amused to hear the president make:
Well, based on my memories and the data showed, I’m going the other way (But really, this is IMHO nitpicking to the Max, please note that my position is really not so different to yours, you only need to consider/remember or read about the nasty things they said about Clinton back then, it was an important reason for the Republican victory then)
Newt denying the viciousness of the Republican message of then, does make him an unreliable source, he is just whoring for a good legacy.
