Democrats Who Wouldn't Honor A 13 Year Old with Brain Cancer?

Just another nugget for ya’:

It really isn’t their friends, their neighbors, their colleagues, or the Democrats who are looking down on Trump supporters, laughing at them behind their backs, and calling them stupid.

It’s the places where they get their news and the people to whom they keep writing checks.

Just saying that pointing out the mouse while ignoring the elephant says a lot about which animal you are siding with.

No, we’re saying that the GOP has gone far beyond “poor behavior,” to pathological lies, naked grift, overt cruelty, and actively striving to tear down our democracy.

This OP, in which you criticize some Democrats for modestly rude behavior, while the “other side” is engaging in behavior that is orders of magnitudes more harmful, hurtful, and downright evil, is a ridiculous, painfully lame attempt at false equivalency.

Look people,
Conservatives say liberals want to cut children up to make pizza toppings after sexually torturing them to extract adrenochrome.
and
Democrats say Republicans want to cut social safety net programs and other things that directly benefit children.

Why can’t you see that both sides are the same?

thank you for putting it so well. I will unsubscribe from this thread as I see no reason to interact with the person who started it.

How do we feel about the Republicans who wouldn’t shout “YOU FUCKING HYPOCRITE” at a president who paraded a child in front of him in order to gain praise for treating cancer patients well, despite cutting funding for cancer research and certainly dooming thousands to an early grave?

How do YOU feel about those Republicans, OP?

Cull the herd, as it were.

Basically, the answer to the OP is no, we are definitely not going to “Look! Over there!!”.

Well said @Stranger_On_A_Train. Dems have spent way too much time sucking up corporate, money, creeping right, and practically no time building up,and informing people who would vote for them. Cozying up to right wingers only proves to unengaged voters, that both parties are the same.

During Biden’s last SOTU, Republicans refused to applaud when Biden vigorously condemned political violence. Wonder if the OP started a thread on that one?

They were wrong because they should have been doing everything possible to discredit their own party.

After failing to discredit their party in the ineffective way you suggest, they next should have discredited the GOP by switching sides of the aisle, becoming Democrats.

And then, as Democrats, they should react to Trump’s next comparable stunt in a polite way that would bring credit, in the eyes of swing voters, to their new party.

I have a question that maybe somebody can answer and that would be relevant to this thread: Does anyone have a list Democrats who did not stand and applaud? My hypothesis is that none of them come from swing or GOP-leaning districts.

What the minority party did in response to Trump’s proclamations doesn’t seem to be as important as what the majority party did during his many incorrect and/or insane moments. Sometimes standing and applaudding, no matter what is put forth, can look pretty damned insensitive.

And then eating that turkey.

Not true. Altho in general many people are declaring “independent” and not one of the two parties.

What do you want us to do? Rise up in armed revolt? Nope. Block a lot of trump stuff in the court? Yep. Vote against everything MAGA- yep.

Exactly what the MAGAs want you to do.

Look, yes, trump got elected. But they were predicting a red wave in the House- and instead got just about the smallest majority ever. Pundits predict the Dems will take the House in 2026.

Or it suggests that the Kremlins propaganda is working- “both sides are as bad, so why bother to vote?”

Yep. Go take a ride on Politifact some day. The “pants on fire lies” are almost all MAGA crap. And even the False ratings are mostly MAGA lies.

I will count-
MAGA PonF- 2
MAGA False- 13
MAGA Mostly False- 2
Unknown False- 2 (Dem?)
Dem False- 1
Dem Mostly False- 1
Dem Half true- 1

The MAGAs lie, lie, and spread propaganda and lies. Yeah, no doubt- some Dems lies also. But there is no equiliancy. Not even close.

Exactly.

I concur.

Good one.

I sure as hell want you to rise up in NON-VIOLENT revolt, though. Stop complying. (More Al Green, less Everyone Else.) Also, stop pretending that the courts are going to save us. The courts are doing all of the heavy lifting right now, and that will work until they day they ignore a court order. Do we have a back-up plan? “Hope the institutions work until Republicans are out of power” looks like sleepwalking into authoritarianism to me.

Such as?

Sit-ins stopped the Vietnam war!
Just ignore that they also contributed to two terms for Nixon and Reagan!

I’ll point you to a few of the experts: Martin Luther King Jr.; Gandhi; the better side of the labor movement.

The key factor seems to be large groups of people, in complete solidarity, refusing to comply with bullshit. Showing up en masse and pointedly refusing to go along with things. Documenting and publicizing the hell out of every dodgy and borderline illegal move.

Some of this is happening already, of course, but there needs to be more, and it needs to be more visible.

If the Democratic Party intends to keep losing elections this is a great start. Playing to their base, who didn’t vote for them and ignoring the popular vote who didn’t either.

Great strategy to win back majority rule when you’ve lost control of the House, the Senate, the White House, and the Supreme Court.

A few more childish stunts ought to do the trick! Any day now he whole country will turn their way.

And your better idea is…?

King and associates did not go after everything that was borderline. Instead they batted around ideas for their next move, avoiding what would alienate potential supporters. I cannot recall King doing something similar to the thread title. Can anyone else here?

One of the most effective tactics was economic boycott (think Montgomery bus boycott).

If my memory is correct, Malcolm X once famously told King that after listening to Malcolm, powers that be will be more receptive to King’s more moderate message. However, I question that Malcolm was correct there. The Democrats are getting smeared because of Al Green, who is from a congressional district where getting the Democratic nomination is tantamount to election. Last November,.Green ran unopposed. No wonder he is so heedless.

The bus boycott equivalent can be to vacation in either Mexico or Canada (or maybe, if you have more money, Greenland). Stay out of Florida, except maybe flying in directly to Key West. Will this fail because of MAGA folks doing the opposite? I do not think so. They already were going to vacation domestically.
