Dental Concerns

And… took the acetaminophen+codeine about a half and hour ago and getting ready for bed. A little bit of soreness now, but I’m really surprised at how painless this has been.

Let’s hope it stays that way.

Yea, do the cold packs. I did them, as well as quick post op painkillers. And then I was feeling very well afterwards.

I wish I could’ve seen my tooth. :frowning: It was very decayed, and they tossed it even before I woke up.

I’ve had so little swelling I haven’t bothered with the cold packs. The dentist got that sucker out so fast and clean I think it really minimized the soft tissue trauma. I’ve had fillings that hurt worse than this, which is just weird (then again, I wasn’t given pain meds after my fillings. Without those I am certain this would be more unpleasant.)

Woke up around 4 or 4:30 when the codeine started to wear off, took another and went back to sleep. Actually slept really well last night, go figger, right? Narcotics can do that. Not fond of the slightly muzzy mental cotton wadding feeling but if I’m asleep who cares, right? I’ll stick to the ibuprophen when I go to work tomorrow.

Think I’ll make some salmon salad, maybe some scrambled eggs, and crack open the ice cream later. I’ll still avoid the crunchy crumbly food a couple more days, just seems like a good idea.

Geez, this guy is good, makes up for some of the really crap dentists I’ve encountered in the past.

speaking for good dentists everywhere, Thank You. I don’t like crap dentists either, they make my job much harder.

Slept past the codeine wearing off this morning. Yep, I was sore when I woke up but not horribly so. Got a full night’s sleep, it’s wasn’t the pain that woke me up, I was just done sleeping. Took a mega-ibuprophen and all better now, going to work in about 4 hours.

May be done with the codeine and stepping down to regular ibuprophen soon. Glad I didn’t need a lot of painkiller though I’m sort of wondering what to do with the rest of the pills.

save them. they come in handy for other pain.

Note to self: 1 megaprofin does not last an entire shift at work. Bring extra one tomorrow for continued comfort for final hour or two of workday. Not intolerable, but it’s a lot easier to smile at the customers when not wincing.

Was kind of weird, several co-workers also got dental work this week. The one who had periodontal surgery + bone grafts in anticipation of future implants was decreed winner of dental misery award for the week.

I suspect part of the reason for the sudden uptick in dental work is that the state-subsidized health insurance some of us has is covering dental work as of this year. So a lot of folks who haven’t seen a dentist in years are finally getting appointments.

It’s been almost a month.

Healing up just fine, eating everything I did before, no problems. Still feels a little weird to be missing the tooth after 30 years of having it there but I’m getting used to it. Chewing on that side is no problem, if anything, it feels better than before (well, yeah, no longer have bad tooth, duh!)

The dentist office has been handling the insurance. I checked in with them just to be sure because I hadn’t heard anything. One insurance company paid all but $42, the claim has been sent to insurance #2 so we’re waiting to hear back. I actually might not have any out of pocket cost for this!

So far, so good.

Glad to hear everything went well. I just recently went to the dentist for a cleaning. I hadn’t been to the dentist since I lived in Boston 25 years ago!

Due to my obsessive teeth brushing/flossing, I was thrilled to hear him say I had NO cavities.

My next 6 month cleaning is scheduled, and I will never wait longer than 6 months to 1 year again.
