I debated putting this in IMHO or MPSIMS, but really I don’t want to hear personal
stories, good or bad. I want someone to walk me thru the process of receiving a dental implant. Here is the situation - I had a first molar crowned many years ago.
No problems with it, until yesterday when it fell out, tooth (all brown and witch-like) and all. Now all I can feel is gum, although I know there is remnants of a tooth below the gumline. Tomorrow I see a new dentist (unhappy with previous one, long story) who specializes in implants. I am having a cleaning, X rays and exam. I realize at some point there will be an extraction of the remains under the gumline. Should I go to an oral surgeon for this? Back molar is gone, unfortunately, so I have no chewing surface on upper left and no way to form a 2 tooth bridge. I take psych meds which have caused advanced gum disease. When extraction is done, I am guessing that some time is needed for area to heal before implant is done. How many visits for an implant? How expensive? I know I will hear most of this repeated at my visit tomorrow, but I am already nervous and feel that some info tonight may calm my nerves. I’m the type who cries at the dentist, sometimes before they even start a procedure. Knowledge is power, anything you can offer will be appreciated.
